## Sr Backend Engineer ### TL;DR We’re building a **stablecoin clearinghouse** to make stablecoins move like money—not a trading asset. You’ll own backend systems that move real value across **mint/burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, settlement, integrations, and APIs**. ### About Us We believe stablecoins are better money and will be the backbone of better payments. We’re a small, scrappy team (~10 people) based in **NYC**, backed by **$10M** (including **a16z crypto**). ### What You’ll Do - Design, build, and operate core backend services behind **mint/burn flows**, **reserve accounting**, **reconciliation**, and **settlement pipelines** - Integrate with **banks, custody providers, stablecoin issuers, blockchains**, and partner APIs—making dependencies safe enough for money movement - Build **durable reconciliation** and **audit trails** so the team always knows where money is and whether state matches reality - Design **secure API surfaces** and own **monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response** for services that move real value - Contribute to payments and internal/admin surfaces where backend ownership meets customer/ops workflows - Identify and pursue improvements to make the core product more robust without waiting for fully specified tickets ### What We’re Looking For - **5–12 years** of production backend engineering experience (services you designed, shipped, and operated) - Experience with **high-value transactional systems** (payments, banking integrations, fintech infrastructure, ledgering, stablecoin/crypto infrastructure, etc.) - Strong distributed systems fundamentals: **consistency, eventing, idempotency, retries, durable reconciliation, ordering, partial failure, observability** - Judgment integrating with unreliable external systems (banks, payment rails, custody providers, issuers, partner APIs) - Experience designing **secure APIs**, handling **secrets/access control**, instrumenting services, and writing **runbooks** - Ability to translate ambiguous business/compliance requirements into technical systems and explain tradeoffs - Ability to work **in person in NYC five days/week** (relocation support available) **Nice to Have** - Direct stablecoin/crypto infrastructure experience (on/off-chain reconciliation, custody flows, mint/burn, chain finality, reserve flows) - Payments/fintech background (e.g., Stripe, Plaid, Circle, Paxos, Coinbase, Modern Treasury, Bridge) - Compliance-adjacent engineering (KYC/KYB, AML, sanctions, audit evidence, reserve attestations) - Experience with admin dashboards, API docs, or partner-facing workflows - Experience with **Temporal** or **TigerBeetle** - Experience with **Rust** or **Python** - Enthusiasm for building/running core infrastructure with **AI coding agents** and shaping an AI-first engineering culture ### Our Values - **Be offended by the status quo** - **Be all over it** (urgency + accountability) - **We sell trust** (security and integrity are non-negotiable) - **Do the dishes** (owners, no ego) - **Be the glue** (team-first, direct, helpful) - **We enjoy the crucible** (optimism for hard missions) ### Benefits - Competitive salary and equity - Comprehensive insurance (medical, dental, vision) - Unlimited vacation - Periodic off-sites - Daily lunch provided ### Equal Opportunity Employment The Better Money Company is an equal opportunity employer.
