## About Column Column is a bank and software company building technology-forward banking solutions that simplify the banking supply chain—cutting out hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. ## The Opportunity: Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) We’re hiring our first **Forward Deployed Engineer**. In this hands-on role, you’ll work directly with customers to understand their needs deeply and help them build new products using Column’s APIs. What you learn in the field will directly inform how our engineering team improves the platform. **Location:** Presidio office in San Francisco, with frequent travel to customer sites in the US and abroad. ## What You’ll Do - Partner with customer engineering teams to design, build, and launch products using Column’s banking stack - Serve as the technical owner for strategic customers—from onboarding through launch—unblocking them on architecture, ledgering, reconciliation, and money-movement edge cases - Write production-quality code that accelerates integrations and evolves into reusable product - Turn field patterns into product and platform improvements (shaping APIs, docs, and developer experience) - Advise customers on building safe, compliant, and resilient financial products in a regulated environment - Represent Column with customer executives and engineering leaders, building trusted long-term relationships ## What We’re Looking For - Strong engineering fundamentals (backend systems, APIs, or infrastructure preferred) - Product thinking: solve the underlying problem, not just the immediate request - Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex systems clearly to engineers and executives - Executive presence and confidence to lead high-stakes customer conversations - Strong project management: manage multiple customer engagements and keep them moving - Self-starter mindset: comfortable with ambiguity and building process where none exists - Payments, banking, or financial infrastructure experience is a plus ## What You’ll Get From Us - Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans (with options covered by Column for you and dependents) - Family planning and fertility benefits via Carrot (reimbursement up to $20,000 in qualified expenses) - Up to $2,000/month post-tax rent subsidy for employees living within 2 miles of the office - FSA and HSA account options - 401(k) plan with self-directed brokerage options - Flexible time-off policy - Sabbatical program (up to 8 weeks fully paid after 5-year anniversary) - 100% paid parental leave (16 weeks birth mothers, 12 weeks primary caregivers, 8 weeks secondary caregivers) - Up to $4,500 annual backup childcare reimbursement - Catered lunches and dinners for SF employees - Commuter benefits - Regular team building events, including annual offsite ## Pay Transparency Compensation includes **base salary, equity, and benefits**.
