## 🏔️ Principal Software Engineer 2 — OLTP **Snowflake** · Engineering --- ### 🧭 About the Role Snowflake is building the next generation of transactional systems for applications, AI, and agents. Across **Snowflake Postgres** and **Unistore**, the team combines the performance and reliability of modern operational databases with Snowflake's cloud-native architecture. This Principal Engineer 2 role defines and drives architecture across database internals, storage, compute, and cloud infrastructure — with a focus on transactional systems for agent-driven workloads. --- ### 🔧 What You'll Do - Define long-term technical architecture for OLTP across Snowflake Postgres, Unistore, and supporting infrastructure - Lead major architectural decisions across transactions, storage, concurrency control, replication, recovery, and query execution - Shape compute and storage architecture for low-latency, highly available transactional systems - Build database primitives for agent-driven workloads (fast isolated environments, checkpointing, rollback, lifecycle management) - Define how agents safely read and modify operational state with strong consistency, recovery, and governance guarantees - Design for programmatic, machine-speed database creation and operation - Lead complex, cross-organizational engineering efforts across multiple teams - Partner with product leaders, senior engineering leadership, and strategic customers - Raise the technical bar through architecture reviews, mentoring, and hands-on leadership --- ### ✅ What They're Looking For - **15+ years** of experience in databases, distributed systems, storage, or large-scale cloud infrastructure - Deep expertise in OLTP: transactions, concurrency control, storage engines, indexing, replication, recovery, and HA - Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure for low-latency stateful systems - Experience with highly elastic, multi-tenant, or rapidly provisioned stateful systems - Strong instincts for AI-native and agent-driven database architecture - Track record of taking ambitious systems from architecture to production at scale - Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams or broad product areas - Deep PostgreSQL expertise is a strong advantage - Systems programming experience; **C, C++, or Rust** is a plus - Exceptional technical judgment and communication skills --- ### 🌟 Why Join - Define the architecture of Snowflake's major expansion into transactional and operational workloads - Work on fundamental database and distributed-systems problems - Build transactional systems for a new generation of applications and agents - Shape Snowflake's product direction for years through high-scope architectural decisions --- > 💼 *For salary and benefits information (US-based roles), visit* **careers.snowflake.com**
