**Attentive® — Director of Engineering, Marketing Agent Platform** *Attentive is the AI marketing platform for 1:1 personalization—combining powerful technology with human expertise to build authentic customer relationships.* ## About the Role Attentive sends billions of messages each year for 8,000+ brands—behind every message is a set of decisions: **who** should receive it, **what** it should say, **when** to send, **which offer** to include, and **which channel** to use. In this role, you’ll help build the next generation of that decision-making system: **an autonomous marketing agent** that transforms how brands plan, execute, and optimize marketing. Marketers set goals and boundaries, while the platform develops strategies, takes action, measures results, and continuously improves over time. You’ll build the engineering systems that make this vision possible—at the intersection of **agentic planning, real-time behavioral signals, platform capabilities, experimentation, and reliable execution at massive scale**. The opportunity extends beyond Attentive’s channels via **APIs and MCP**, enabling intelligence to operate across a brand’s broader marketing stack (external email providers, advertising platforms, websites, and custom agents). ## What You’ll Accomplish - **3+ years managing engineers** and **8+ years engineering** - Build engineering excellence: set an ambitious bar, hire and lead an **A+ team**, and bring strong technical opinions with the curiosity to challenge assumptions - Experience building **large-scale reinforcement learning systems** (data, infra, and serving platforms beneath it) - Understand the interface between **product engineering, ML, and data science**—partner effectively without needing to own the model - Ship **agentic or LLM-backed systems**, with production tradeoffs in mind (tool use, orchestration, retrieval) - Strong in **distributed, data-heavy systems**: streaming, event-driven, cost-aware inference - Track the field and understand what shipped last quarter and why it matters; **kill work** when something better arrives - Still write code: hire well, give direct feedback, hold a high performance bar, and build accountability without drama ## Your Expertise - **AI at massive data scale:** build intelligent systems that turn rich behavioral data into better decisions and experiences - **Startup mindset in a scaled environment:** move quickly, embrace ambiguity, and take ownership - **High-impact ownership:** work on a major strategic bet with visibility across senior leadership and the board - **Technical + product leadership:** influence team, architecture, technical direction, and roadmap—not just execute predefined tasks ## Compensation (US based applicants) - Base salary range: **$340,000 – $390,000 annually** + **commission** + equity + benefits - Salary ranges determined by role, level, and location - **Salaried non-exempt** and eligible for overtime compensation **#LI-EF1** *If you don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.* Attentive is an **Equal Opportunity Employer** and is committed to a fair, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
