**Via — Staff AI Engineer** Via is on a mission to create public transportation systems that provide far greater access to jobs, healthcare, and education. Our platform is the technology backbone for modern transit networks—transforming antiquated, siloed public transportation into smart, data-driven, efficient digital networks. We’re launching an incubator-style team operating like a startup within the company to expand our reach and deliver cutting-edge technical solutions to cities beyond transit. ## About the Role - Build and ship production-grade AI products end-to-end—owning problem framing, data pipeline design, deployment, and iteration in live environments. - Work closely with partners in a forward-deployed manner to understand constraints and iterate quickly on scalable agentic solutions. - Lead technical scoping workshops and interface directly with city leaders to solve challenging local problems with agentic workflows. - Contribute across a fast-moving roadmap, including intelligent tooling for data consolidation, predictive modeling, real-time decision-making, and LLM-powered experiences. - Collaborate with product, data science, and operations to identify and prioritize the highest-impact AI opportunities. - Write clean, scalable backend code that powers AI-driven features—designing APIs, managing data flows, and ensuring reliability at scale. - Help shape the AI Labs technical culture from the ground up (how the team builds, reviews, ships, and iterates). - Stay close to the frontier of AI and proactively bring new ideas, tools, and approaches to the team. ## About You - 10+ years of hands-on experience building full stack applications, with a track record of owning features end-to-end (not just working on models/research in isolation). - 3+ years working with AI tools and/or building AI-powered products. - Deep expertise across the AI stack, including LLMs, predictive modeling, and the data infrastructure needed for real-world environments. - Strong engineering fundamentals: scalable APIs, distributed systems, and clean, maintainable code. - Thrives in ambiguity and early-stage environments—ownership without needing everything defined. - Strong cross-functional communication and curiosity to push what’s possible with AI. - Enjoys working directly with users/customers and is comfortable traveling to collaborate on-site. ## Compensation and Benefits (US only) - Final salary determined by experience, knowledge, and skills (salary excludes equity/variable pay where applicable). - Salary Range: **$250,000 – $300,000** - Comprehensive benefits including free medical plans, 401K matching, catered lunch on Wednesdays, and additional perks.
