**Software Architect / Space Communications Program** **Location:** Las Cruces, New Mexico (White Sands Complex) **About the Role:** Peraton seeks a Senior Software Architect SME to lead architecture review, documentation, and modernization of a large-scale legacy ground system supporting NASA Space Relay network operations. You'll work with a 35-year-old codebase (Fortran, Ada, C, C++) and mentor teams through structured modernization efforts. **Key Responsibilities:** • Co-lead Architecture Definition Review of legacy ground systems • Develop and update technical architecture documentation • Mentor software engineering teams through modernization and platform rehost efforts • Define software development processes, toolchain standards, and CI/CD pipelines • Drive agile methodology adoption and AI-assisted code comprehension workflows • Coordinate with NASA task monitors on technical progress and formal review gates • Maintain technical documentation as a living knowledge base **Required Qualifications:** • Bachelor's in Computer Science/Software Engineering + 8 years experience (or Master's + 6 years) • Ability to obtain DoD Secret security clearance; US Citizen • Experience reading/analyzing legacy codebases (C, C++, Fortran, Ada) • Linux/Unix development environment experience • Relational database experience (PostgreSQL, Oracle) • Version control (GitLab, GitHub) and CI/CD pipeline proficiency • Agile/iterative development methodology experience • Leadership experience with 5+ engineer teams • Government/DoD/NASA program environment experience **Preferred Qualifications:** • NASA ground systems or space relay systems experience • AI-assisted code comprehension tools familiarity • Legacy codebase migration experience • MBSE tools (MagicDraw/Cameo) or Confluence experience **Salary Range:** $86,000 - $138,000 **Equal Opportunity Employer**
