Director of Engineering, Fleet Applications
Agility Robotics · Hybrid- Any Office (Fremont, CA, Salem, OR, or Pittsburgh, PA)
About this role
**Director of Engineering, Fleet Applications** Agility’s commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers—tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. The **Director of Fleet Applications** will lead multiple teams of full-stack, front-end, and cloud services developers to deliver **Arc**, a cloud SaaS platform for deployed Digit fleets and their ecosystem devices. Arc supports software distribution, device configuration and status, data lakehousing, and task workflow management—enabling supervisors to inspect metrics, manage workflows and workcells, and administer robot and device assets. You’ll also drive the product vision for the **Robot Operations Center**, delivering applications focused on customer support, remote issue resolution, and service. This is an **execution-focused** role working with Product partners, Principal Architects, and TPMs to define and deliver the product vision—ensuring speedy delivery into production and data-driven continuous improvement. --- ## Responsibilities - **Delivery of Arc Platform:** Define the technical roadmap, commit to dates based on product/customer targets, and lead resource/staffing planning. - **Multiple teams, one roadmap:** Align a UI team (on-robot interfaces + web/mobile experiences) and a cloud services team (workflow orchestration, resource management, fleet data aggregation from the edge). - **Technical roadmaps & decision making:** Build consensus on OSS selection, language/framework choices, service boundaries, and API contracts—then close decisions so teams can move. - **Requirements for upstream dependencies:** Partner with Cloud Platform on SOC 2 readiness and multi-cell/single-tenant deployment architectures; provide depth to write and review requirements. - **New surfaces for the fleet:** Enable remote diagnostics/resolution for support engineers and mobile experiences for site leaders. - **The team itself:** Hiring, leveling, performance, and growth for a fully distributed engineering organization. --- ## Required Qualifications - Led multiple engineering teams (managing managers and senior ICs) delivering product on committed timelines; can explain slips and corrective actions. - Experience taking products from bespoke/single-customer delivery to **multi-tenant SaaS** (or reverse: standing up **single-tenant** deployments for enterprise isolation). - Technical depth to review architecture proposals and argue for/against language, OSS, and tech stack choices. - Experience with mature **CI/CD** and **Release Engineering** processes to improve ship cadence and software quality. - Managed distributed teams of remote ICs. - Strong partnership with Product and TPM counterparts; ownership of outcomes without needing to own the roadmap. --- ## Preferred Qualifications - Domain experience in **Robotics, Industrial Automation, IIoT, or fleet/telematics**. - Full-stack and cloud services breadth. - **SOC 2** (or comparable compliance) experience as an engineering leader. - Experience with on-device/embedded UI alongside web. --- ## Location - **Hybrid** position based out of **Salem, Pittsburgh, or Fremont** offices. --- ## Compensation & Benefits (Highlights) - **Anticipated Salary Range:** **$236,000 — $369,000 USD** - 401(k) with **6% company match** - Equity (company stock options) - 100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, and disab
