AI Product Engineer

About this role
**AI Product Engineer** **About Casper Studios** Casper Studios is an AI services firm helping companies determine where and how to use AI. We’ve built Casper Studios to ~45 people, worked with 30+ clients, and partnered with major companies, PE funds, and model providers. Our approach: listen first, understand the business, and help clients start their AI journey with the highest-leverage path. **About the Role** We’re looking for AI-native engineers with strong fundamentals in programming, data, and systems—plus the judgment to get the most out of LLMs and know where they break. You’ll work across enterprise document processing, workflow automation, computer vision, and financial research tooling for finance, healthcare, and enterprise clients. This is a role for someone who ships, owns outcomes, and wants unusual responsibility early. --- ## What You’ll Do - **Own AI product builds end-to-end** (concept → production) on client engagements - **Decide what to build and how**: gather requirements, pressure-test stakeholder requests, and prioritize what matters - **Prototype quickly with LLMs**, then harden into production using data pipelines, integrations, and evals - **Do the required data engineering**: ingestion, data modeling, and ETL - **Be the primary technical contact for clients** (talk shop with engineers; give executives clarity) - **Instrument and iterate** using real usage (analytics, funnel metrics, error analysis) - **Own reliability, security, and cost**: auth, secrets, PII handling, and cloud cost control - **Write up what you learn** for the team, clients, and publicly --- ## What You’ll Bring - **Strong engineering fundamentals**: programming, debugging, system design; you think beyond the happy path - **Shipped something real with an LLM** that got actual usage (ideally with error analysis and evals) - **Data engineering experience**: data modeling/architecture and ETL/pipelines (Airflow, Dagster, Inngest, Prefect, or similar) - **Web + infra fundamentals**: auth and web security, profiling slow queries (e.g., N+1, unnecessary joins), CI/CD, and cost-aware deployment on a major cloud - **Modern AI tooling** (e.g., Claude Code) with customized workflows - **High agency**: frame ambiguous problems, state assumptions, and push work forward without heavy supervision - **Strong writing** and a high say:do ratio (turn messy calls into clear tickets) --- ## Nice to Haves - Depth in one of: financial services, healthcare, or enterprise/contact-center AI - Comfortable being client-facing at a senior level - Preference for **TypeScript** (much of the stack is TS) - Built observability for an AI product - Connected to the applied-AI community --- ## Why This Role Is Hard to Fill We need engineers who can do **both**: - classical engineering judgment for real-world reliability/security - practical LLM understanding to know what works, what fails, and why If you need clean requirements and heavy supervision, you may not thrive here. If your work only holds on the happy path, this may not be the right fit. --- ## You Might Be a Fit If - You’ve built and deployed **0→1**, shipped, gained real usage, and iterated - You’re **T-shaped**: deep in one area (ML, full-stack, data, or security) and strong across the rest - You’ve been a solo/founding engineer who owned outcomes (not just tickets) --- ## Logistics - **Fully remote** (US/Canada based) with occasional client travel - Team spans North America and internationall
