We’re building a future where Bevi machines are everywhere people live, work, and connect—serving thousands of customers across the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland, and saving over 1 billion bottles from waste. ## Role Summary Bevi is seeking a **Senior Software Engineer** to help deliver backend solutions that support the stable operation of our fleet of smart water machines and modernize our backend systems for scale. You’ll collaborate with other engineers on system design and implementation, drive critical feature development, and mentor junior teammates. **Office preference:** Ability to be in the Boston (Charlestown) office **2+ days/week** is strongly preferred. ## Your Day to Day - Design, build, optimize, and maintain Bevi’s backend platform and services using **Java and Kotlin** for reliability, remote management, and scalability. - Manage backend deployments to production; maintain service uptime and monitor health post-rollout. - Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve service and cloud performance using **logs and metrics**. - Build and maintain well-designed, documented **APIs** to ensure performance and responsiveness of web and machine UIs. - Develop and expand services that process **telemetry events/datapoints** from Bevi machines for R&D, support technicians, and fleet managers. - Deliver clean, reliable, maintainable code as part of an agile team. - Participate in architectural discussions and guide technical design with **metric-driven** outcomes. - Collaborate cross-functionally (product and hardware) to define, design, and ship features and contribute to planning. - Review code, share best practices, and champion unit/integration testing and TDD. - Mentor engineers on architectural decisions and application creation strategies. - Own relationships with cloud providers, software vendors, and third-party services supporting backend infrastructure. - Triage and resolve complex issues/bugs impacting backend services and UIs. - Participate in Agile/Scrum (sprint planning, stand-ups, retros). ## Requirements - BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). - **5+ years** backend development with **Java/Kotlin**; microservices experience is a plus. - Strong database design/development with **Postgres** (or similar); time-series DB experience (e.g., **Influx** or **TimescaleDB**) is a plus. - Experience deploying and maintaining applications on cloud platforms. - Strong **API design** skills; **GraphQL** preferred. - Full-stack experience with modern frameworks like **TypeScript** and **React** is a plus. - Proficiency with monitoring/troubleshooting via logging and metrics. - Experience with unit/integration testing and **test-driven development**. - Familiarity with **Git** and **CI/CD** pipelines. - Ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement effective performance/stability improvements. - Deep working knowledge of application development landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies. - Strong communication and collaboration skills. - Self-starter mindset and ownership; able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. ## Compensation & Benefits - **Pay range:** **$151,895 — $187,635 USD** - **Benefits include:*
