**Software Engineer - Risk** **About Cardless** Cardless is building infrastructure for companies to design, build, and launch their own financial products. We handle lending, compliance, and operations while our APIs shape the customer journey from application through every transaction. **The Role** Own the systems that decide whether to trust a person, device, or transaction. You'll build the risk decisioning layer for card authorization and mobile wallet provisioning, moving fraud logic from vendor dashboards into a testable control plane with real-time detection and alerting. **Key Responsibilities** • Build risk decisioning for card authorization and wallet provisioning • Move fraud logic into a unified control plane with shadow mode and kill switches • Implement real-time detection across velocity, cross-provisioning, and device signals • Gate servicing changes on risk evaluation and build tooling for fraud analysts **Requirements** • 6+ years building production backend systems • Meaningful experience in fraud, payments risk, or trust & safety engineering • Built risk systems as an engineer: decisioning services, rules engines, real-time scoring • Strong distributed systems and API fundamentals (Java primary, Python for data) • Think in blast radius and stay steady in incidents **Bonus** Card issuing knowledge, account takeover/step-up auth experience, or prior work at risk/identity vendors **Compensation & Benefits** $190,000 - $295,000 + equity + benefits • 100% health, vision & dental coverage • Catered lunches, $250/month commuter benefit • Parental leave, flexible PTO (15+ days) • Apple equipment, 401k **Location** San Francisco, CA (Jackson Square) — 5 days/week in office
