We’re proud of our 120-person, 100% remote team. **What you’ll build (CRM Team)** The CRM team owns everything customers touch every day: leads, contacts, opportunities, tasks, activities, custom objects, and search. You’ll help drive major work on Close’s next-generation core data model—reopening assumptions from a decade ago and designing a modern CRM structure that keeps Close flexible for small, scaling businesses. This is a long series of migrations and rearchitecture projects. > Note: We may move engineers between teams as the work shifts. You’ll start on the CRM team, but you may have opportunities across other projects over time. **Key responsibilities** - **Rearchitect the core CRM data model**: redesign how leads, contacts, opportunities, and custom objects relate. - **Make Close usable by agents**: build tools/endpoints that expose CRM data and actions via MCP. - **Tackle search as the hard part**: enable MCP-compatible harnesses to traverse, filter, and reason over CRM data without learning a private query language. - **Ship AI-native CRM features**: agentic enrichment, AI-powered data cleaning, and richer AI search. - **Keep hot paths fast**: lead lookup, deal updates, pipeline scanning, and bulk actions. **Tech you’ll touch** Python, Flask, FastAPI, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, Redis, TaskTiger, MCP (plus whichever LLM ships next). **What we’re looking for** - **Seasoned engineer** with strong Python foundations (experience with Go, Rust, or TypeScript is a plus). - **Architecturally minded**: designed systems others build on, planned migrations that don’t take the product down, and can sequence rearchitecture into independently shippable pieces. - **Data model & retrieval problem solver**: schemas, relationships, normalization, query design, type systems. - **Search experience (bonus)**: Elasticsearch and adjacent knowledge (Lucene internals, query planning, relevance, indexing at scale). - **AI-native in production**: shipped meaningful LLM-backed/agentic features and can articulate where AI belongs vs. where structured systems win. - **Battle-tested**: debugged incidents, owned customer-impacting systems, and handled pager responsibilities. - **Builder first**: prefers shipping a solid v1 over over-abstracting. **Benefits (highlights)** - Competitive pay + organization-wide goal-based bonus - ~5 weeks PTO to start + paid US holidays + 1-week Winter Holiday Break - 80% work option (4-day week at 80% pay) - Paid parental leave - Sabbatical: 1-month paid sabbatical every 5 years - Healthcare (US residents): Close covers 99% of premium + Dental/Vision/HSA/FSA + company-paid Long-Term Disability - 401k match up to 6% (US residents) **Hiring process** We ask role-specific questions and use AI tools daily at Close—candidates should do the same.
