About this role
**Senior Optical Network Engineer II** **About CoreWeave** CoreWeave is The Essential Cloud for AI™. Built for pioneers by pioneers, we deliver a platform of technology, tools, and teams that enables innovators to build and scale AI with confidence. Founded in 2017, CoreWeave became a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: CRWV) in March 2025. **What You'll Do** Design, build, operate, and evolve the optical network that underpins our global IP backbone. Work across the complete optical lifecycle—from dark fiber and photonic engineering through DWDM system design, deployment, capacity expansion, automation, monitoring, and production operations. **Key Responsibilities** • Design, engineer and operate long-haul, metro, and data-center interconnect optical networks • Engineer DWDM systems across dark-fiber infrastructure • Design optical paths including amplification, regeneration, wavelength planning, and power budgets • Deploy, configure, operate, and troubleshoot Nokia and Ciena optical platforms • Commission new fiber spans, wavelengths, and optical systems • Perform fiber characterization and validate dark-fiber routes • Analyze span loss, OSNR, Q-factor, BER, and optical performance characteristics • Troubleshoot complex optical impairments using telemetry and test equipment • Design amplifier chains and understand EDFA and Raman amplification • Engineer coherent optical transmission across metro and long-haul networks • Build monitoring and telemetry to identify optical degradation early • Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis • Evaluate and qualify new optical platforms and photonic technologies • Develop automation and tooling for network scaling • Mentor engineers and establish technical standards **Required Experience** • Strong hands-on experience with both Ciena and Nokia optical platforms in production environments • Deep experience with dark-fiber networks: fiber characterization, loss budgets, ILA site design, OTDR testing, dispersion, and troubleshooting • Deep understanding of DWDM and optical transmission: coherent optics, C-band/L-band systems, ROADMs, EDFAs, 400G/800G transmission, ZR/ZR+, FEC, OSNR, Q-factor, PMD, PDL • Ability to turn a proposed dark-fiber route into a production optical system • Experience designing and operating multi-vendor optical environments (highly desirable) **Preferred Experience** • IP networking knowledge (BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, Segment Routing, IP backbone architectures) • Programming experience with Python, REST APIs, NETCONF/YANG, gNMI, OpenConfig • Network automation, configuration generation, Git workflows, telemetry systems **Compensation & Benefits** Base salary range: $165,000–$220,000 (based on qualifications, experience, and market location). Discretionary bonus, equity awards, and comprehensive benefits package included. **Why Join CoreWeave?** Work in an exciting hyper-growth stage with talented engineers. We value curiosity, ownership, empowerment, client experience, and collaboration. Come help us build a scalable, resilient, and operationally manageable global optical backbone.
