About this role

**Sr. Software Engineer (Billing)** **Who We Are** At **Bandwidth**, we shape how the world connects. We’re a global communications software company and Tier 1 network operator with global reach—building the voice, messaging, and emergency services infrastructure behind the brands and apps you use every day. Because we own the network we build on, the problems you’ll solve here are bigger, more complex, and more impactful. And as communications shifts to AI, we’re the infrastructure layer making it possible. **What We Are Looking For** As a Software Engineer on our **Billing Engineering** team, you’ll build and expand Bandwidth’s billing infrastructure. The team enables Bandwidth to charge customers for global communication services at large and growing scale. We’re looking for people who enjoy building **highly performant and maintainable** services and infrastructure. **What You’ll Do** - Design, implement, and operate flexible and accurate financial systems that support our global communication services. - Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define and deliver solutions that meet customer needs. - Identify and resolve bottlenecks and inefficiencies in billing processes, ensuring high availability and scalability. - Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture decisions to uphold high-quality software development practices. - Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. **What You Need** - 5+ years of engineering experience building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems. - Experience with **Java**, **SQL**, and large datasets; familiarity with **AWS** or other cloud providers. - Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions. - Maintain high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Strong communication skills to express ideas and technical solutions, including articulating pros/cons of approaches. - Use AI effectively across the full development lifecycle, and review AI-generated code with the same rigor as human-written code (security, style, compliance). - Use AI to innovate and add customer value. **Bonus Points** - Startup experience, or working in environments with independent work and less defined requirements. - Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g., **Datadog**). - Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code (specifically **Terraform**). - Strong understanding of modern **CI/CD** best practices (ideally **GitHub Actions**) and strategies to enhance them. **The Whole Person Promise** Bandwidth is rooted in a “Whole Person Promise,” supporting meaningful work and a full life. - 100% company-paid Medical, Vision, & Dental coverage for you and your family (low deductibles, low out-of-pocket) - Four weeks of PTO for new hires - PTO Embargo: teammates/managers can’t interrupt your PTO (even email) - Additional PTO via volunteer hours and Bandwidth challenges - “Mahalo moments” program for major life events - 90-minute workout lunches and unlimited meetings with a nutritionist If you’re excited about the role and responsibilities—even if you’re not 100% qualified—we encourage you to apply.
