About this role

**Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Self Managed Experience (SMX)** Camunda is the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration—helping organizations coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex, end-to-end business processes with governance, auditability, and human oversight. Camunda is hiring for **Self-Managed Experience (SMX)**—the team responsible for making **Camunda 8 deployable in a self-service way** for customers who run their own infrastructure. --- ## About the role SMX covers two areas: - **Installation artifacts**: Helm chart, Docker Compose, C8Run - **Reference architectures & cloud infrastructure**: AWS, GCP, Azure This role sits primarily on the **installation artifacts** side: building, maintaining, and releasing the artifacts that ship Camunda 8 to self-managed customers. You’ll work closely with the reference-architecture team over time as SMX moves toward enabling engineers to review and contribute across both stacks. SMX is also shifting from a purely artifact/ops-focused team toward one where engineers bring **customer judgment and product sense** alongside technical depth—engaging with Support, Consulting, and Presales to shape priorities. --- ## What you’ll be doing - Build, maintain, and release **Camunda 8 distribution artifacts** for self-managed customers - **Helm Charts (Kubernetes)**, **C8Run**, **Docker Compose** - Documentation for the above - Improve **reliability and usability** of deployment artifacts across the full customer lifecycle: - installation, **upgrades**, and **day-2 operations** (not just initial deployment) - Partner with internal customer-facing teams (Support, Consulting, Presales) to understand real deployment problems and help shape what gets prioritized - Collaborate with Development, Product Management, QA, and Documentation to ship integrated, tested, and documented releases - Participate in the team’s **medic rotation** and resolve engineering-level support cases, feeding learnings back into development - Contribute to shared SMX tooling (review, deployment, and test tooling) --- ## Success looks like (first ~3 months) - Take your first medic rotation slot and support tickets to understand the stack, customer challenges, and deployment environments - Improve onboarding or documentation based on your ramp-up - Contribute to artifact fixes, CI/CD enhancements, or test automation that strengthens release quality - Deliver structural improvement initiatives (feature request or test/release improvement) - Build relationships with engineering, QA, and product peers; start forming context on the reference-architecture side - Develop your own view of a customer pain point from firsthand signal (support/consulting feedback) --- ## What you bring - Ability and/or willingness to use Camunda with curiosity about the customer problem behind tickets - Strong expertise in: - building/operating/maintaining **Helm Charts** - deploying applications on **Kubernetes** - implementing **CI/CD pipelines** with **GitHub Actions** - managing infrastructure as code (e.g., **Terraform**) - Ability to create clear technical documentation and communicate effectively across teams - Pragmatic, autonomous approach to programming and problem-solving - “Manager of one” mindset: build it, own it, deliver maintainable, operable software --- ## Nice-to-haves - Experience running/operating **on-prem/self-hosted** software on Docker - Familiarity with **Prometheus, Grafana, Op
