Robotics Software Engineer I/II
Agility Robotics · Onsite- Salem, OR
About this role
**Robotics Software Engineer I/II — Skills Team (Humanoid Robots)** Agility’s commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers—tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. ## About the Role We’re looking for a hands-on Robotics Software Engineer to develop, test, validate, and integrate robot skills into real customer workflows. You’ll work at the boundary between prototype and production—evaluating performance, root-causing failures, and improving behaviors. You’ll be hands-on with hardware nearly every day: bringing new customer workflows online, ensuring existing deployments remain reliable, defining test plans, executing experiments, and validating that behaviors meet autonomy and performance requirements. ## Key Responsibilities - Develop and maintain a core library of production-ready robot skills that power customer workflows. - Script new skills using behavior trees, state machines, or task planners (control flow logic and behavior sequencing). - Deploy classical and modern robotics paradigms to implement skills for tasks in target domains. - Build and maintain workflows using the robot’s skill API. - Prototype new skills and customer use cases to assess feasibility. ### Testing, Validation & Deployment - Define what “production-ready” means for each skill/workflow and design test plans and infrastructure to validate it. - Recreate corner cases from logs and failures into repeatable tests. - Validate new skills/workflows in simulation and on hardware before release. - Travel occasionally (\<10%) to customer sites for deployment support, hands-on validation, and tuning. ## About You - 2+ years of relevant experience (research-level and industry experience preferred), ideally applied to mobile manipulation robots. - B.S. or M.S. in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field. - Proficient in Python and able to write clean code. - Experience with Linux systems. - Excited to develop physical robot behaviors (not just simulations)—enjoy iterating on hardware and seeing results in the field. - Curious about end-to-end autonomy (low-level control through high-level task planning) and bridging behavior design to real-world deployment. - Strong ownership mindset—focus on reliability and eliminating failure modes. ## Bonus Qualifications - Experience scripting robot behaviors using state machines, behavior trees, or similar control flow logic. - Understanding of robot manipulation, motion planning, and kinematics (e.g., familiarity with MoveIt). - Exposure to test-driven development, automated regression testing, and CI/CD workflows. - Experience operating autonomous robots in customer environments / real-world deployments. ## Location - Onsite (minimum 4 days/week) based out of the Salem, OR office. ## Compensation (Base Salary Range) - **$114,000 — $148,000 USD** *Final salary depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Ranges may vary by location and may change in the future.* ## Benefits (Highlights) - 401(k) with **6% company match** - Equity: company stock options - Insurance: **100% company-paid** medical, dental, vision, and short/long-term disability - Eligible for benefits on your first day - Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Time off: flexible/unlimited PTO for exempt roles (plus 12 company holidays, including winter shutdown) or 10 vacation days + paid sick leave for
