About this role
## About Us Imbue is a radically different AI company. We believe that data should belong to you, humans should come before technology, and everyone deserves to own a personal team of AI agents. We’re building a future of **open agents** that you can modify to do exactly what you want. We’re creating a suite of tools to make tech serve humans—and making it **open source**. **Some first projects include:** - **Studio**: A custom digital HQ for building personalized software, apps, and tools — https://imbue.com/product/studio - **Bouncer**: A social media feed filter that removes what you don’t want to see and retrains your algorithm — https://github.com/imbue-ai/bouncer - **Sculptor**: An interface for programmers to run coding agents in parallel and stay in flow — https://github.com/imbue-ai/sculptor - **mngr**: A command-line tool for managing agents — https://github.com/imbue-ai/mng - **Vet**: A standalone tool that catches AI coding mistakes and reviews full PRs — https://github.com/imbue-ai/vet - **Offload**: Automatically distributes your tests to run in isolated sandboxes — https://github.com/imbue-ai/offload - **Latchkey**: A command-line tool to integrate local agents with third-party APIs — https://github.com/imbue-ai/latchkey - **Darwinian Evolver**: A near-universal optimizer for code and agents — https://github.com/imbue-ai/darwinian_evolver We’re just getting started—if you’re excited about building a future with open agents, **say hi!** We’re supported by investors like Nvidia, Simon Last (co-founder of Notion), and Eric Schmidt (former CEO of Google), with **$200M raised at over $1B valuation**. --- ## Summary We’re looking for software engineers with strong engineering foundations and a deep curiosity to solve technical problems for the benefit of humans. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape our product and help build **0→1**—not only the technologies we use, but the overall direction of the product as it evolves. This role is broad: you might design APIs, build infrastructure, improve model tooling, or shape new product features depending on where the need is greatest. We’re looking for engineers who thrive in ambiguity, enjoy working across the stack, and are excited about building open source AI tools. **Location:** Onsite at our San Francisco headquarters or remote. --- ## You Are - Someone who has built and shipped projects or products **0→1** - Very comfortable writing **Python** - Excited to work on **open source** code - Passionate about **engineering best practices** - **Self-directed** and independent - Excellent at **getting things done** --- ## Compensation and Benefits - Competitive compensation, **equity**, and benefits - Lunch provided daily to onsite employees - **$250/month** lifestyle stipend - Generous budget for self-improvement (coaching, courses, conferences, etc.) - Actively co-create and participate in a positive, intentional team culture - Time to learn, read papers, and deeply understand prior work - Frequent team events, dinners, off-sites, and hanging out - Compensation packages are highly variable based on factors; if your salary requirements fall outside the stated range, they still encourage you to apply. **Range:** **$170,000–$350,000 cash (plus equity)** --- ## How to Apply All submissions are reviewed by a person—include notes on why you’re interested in working with us.
