## Sr. Software Engineer - Backend **Company:** Uber Freight US LLC **Location:** 433 West Van Buren Street, Chicago, IL 60607 **Job ID:** 3448 --- ### Job Duties & Responsibilities - Architect and develop high-quality software—efficient, maintainable, and scalable—for multiple applications and services. - Follow safe coding practices with a focus on security, dependency management, and risk mitigation. - Identify impacts on other modules and applications, including in distributed systems. - Support project leadership with work estimations, staffing needs, interviews, and project schedule planning. - Handle version control complexities (multiple concurrent branches and multi-branch merges). - Perform unit and integration testing in a deployment environment to ensure requirements are met. - Identify gaps in testing methodology and recommend alternative solutions or frameworks. - Provide implementation support to Business Analysts and Technical Support to resolve production issues. - Serve as a specialist for complex matters, performing in-depth evaluation and analysis of variable factors. - Lead large, complex projects end to end with cross-functional collaboration (Product, Design, Operations, Data Science). - Mentor junior software engineers. - Define architecture for cross-team projects. - Own delivery of complex workstreams. - Create and assign tasks for large-scale projects. - Work independently on projects with increasing complexity and ambiguity. --- ### Minimum Education / Experience Requirements - Requires a **Master of Science** degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a directly related field, plus experience. **Experience (may be concurrent):** - 3 years: Golang; Go FX; Thrift; gRPC; Bazel; Message Queues; Grafana; ELK; MySQL; GORM; Go-sqlmock; Goland; VS Code - 3 years: Zap logging framework; Shell Scripting - 2 years: Redis; Phabricator; Sourcegraph; M3 metrics; Yarpc - 2 years: transportation or logistics environment - 2 years: React or AngularJS (web development frameworks) --- ### Salary & Benefits - **Salary:** **$184,993.00/year** to **$211,550.00/year** - **Benefits (US employees working 30+ hours):** company-sponsored health plan, dental/vision, 401k match, wellness benefits, parental leave, disability coverage, life insurance, and more.
