**Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO) — Aequitas Solutions** **Location:** Remote, United States *(Pacific Time Zone preferred; Southern California a plus)* --- ## About Aequitas Solutions Aequitas Solutions is a mission-critical Student Information System (SIS) provider serving K-12 public school districts, with primary markets in **California** and **Michigan**. Its platform, **Q**, supports core district operations including **enrollment, attendance, compliance reporting, and data governance**. Aequitas competes on **trust, customer responsiveness, and deployment flexibility**—supporting **cloud, hybrid, and on-premise** environments so districts maintain control over their data and infrastructure. Aequitas was acquired by **Banyan Software** in 2022 and is actively expanding its product capabilities and customer footprint. --- ## The Opportunity This is an executive “builder” role with full ownership of the **product vision, technical strategy, and engineering execution**. The CPTO will: - Establish **AI-first development** as the operating standard - Define the **modernization roadmap** for a platform with significant legacy footprint - Build the team structure and discipline needed to deliver a **multi-year product vision** The CEO operates as a true partner—communicating direction and course-correcting when needed, but leaving the CPTO to own how resources are deployed, how the team is structured, and how the roadmap is executed. **Reporting:** Directly to the CEO; part of the Aequitas leadership team alongside Customer Success, Finance, and Sales/Marketing. --- ## What You Will Own ### Product & Platform Leadership - Own the **multi-year product and technology roadmap**, shifting from customer-reactive to market-facing - Establish formal **product management discipline** (roadmap ownership, prioritization frameworks, release planning) - Balance innovation with platform stability during key compliance cycles (e.g., **CALPADS** and **MiDataHub**) - Partner with **Customer Success** and district stakeholders to ensure roadmap decisions reflect real workflows - Support Sales and executives with credible product positioning for growth beyond the current base ### AI-First Product & Development Strategy - Lead implementation of **AI-first development practices** aligned with Banyan’s AI mandate - Define and execute an AI product strategy focused on **practical, explainable** capabilities that improve productivity, data quality, and compliance confidence - Ensure AI respects **data locality, deployment boundaries, and K-12 regulatory constraints** - Partner with Banyan’s AI team and internal AI Council to evaluate tooling, set standards, and drive adoption ### Engineering Leadership & Team Development - Lead a team of ~**eight direct reports** across development and database administration - Build structure and shared processes; improve cross-functional visibility where engineering currently operates in silos - Set development standards, quality expectations, and a release cadence supporting cloud and on-premise customers - Evaluate capabilities honestly and make personnel decisions needed for the business—while preserving a culture of long tenure and strong relationships ### Platform Architecture & Deployment Strategy - Own architecture strategy across **cloud, hybrid, and on-premise** deployment models - Execute a modernization roadmap for a platform with significant **VB.NET legacy** without disrupting mission-crit
