## Software Engineer — C1.ai ### About the role C1.ai is building a **horizontal identity platform**—the control plane for modern companies. Organizations run dozens (sometimes hundreds) of systems that all need to answer the same question: **who can do what, when, and why**. You’ll help build a foundational platform that connects to **SaaS apps, infrastructure, internal tools, and AI agents**—anything with a concept of “who.” ### How engineering works here - **Generalists by default:** take work **end-to-end** (data model → API → UI → rollout → customer conversations). - **Specialists welcome:** if you’ve gone deep in **connectors, performance, security, or distributed systems**, you’ll fit right in—but even specialists are expected to step outside their lane when needed. - **Ship-focused:** impact matters more than rigid ownership. - **High bar:** you should be able to operate independently and deliver in a modern engineering environment. ### What you’ll do - Own projects that matter and take them through to **production** - Build features **end-to-end** and continue to own them after launch - Make architecture, scope, and tradeoff decisions without waiting for direction - Partner with **customers, design, and product** to build what’s actually worth building - Maintain a high standard for **code quality, system design, and operational reliability** ### What we look for **You likely have:** - Experience building and operating **real production systems** - Comfort moving across the stack, knowing when to go deep - A bias toward **getting things done** - Clear communication, especially in writing - Experience using **AI tools** to be more effective **You might also have:** - Deep experience in **identity, security, distributed systems, or large-scale data systems** - Startup experience in a fast-growing environment - Experience building products/platforms for other developers ### Compensation & benefits - **Salary range:** $180k – $250k - **Meaningful equity** - Full medical, dental, and vision coverage - **In-office:** Portland, San Francisco, or New York - Solid benefits across the board ### Hiring philosophy They value **excellence and grit**.
