Rula is currently hiring in most U.S. states (excluding Hawaii). --- ## About the Role We’re looking for a **Staff Software Engineer** to join our **Partnerships Referrals & Conversions** engineering team. This team focuses on **managing patient referrals**, including building **scalable referral pathways for partners** and delivering **referral-centric patient experiences**. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll: - Build and evolve systems behind **referral management**, **partner data management**, and **patient booking experiences** - Bring order to ambiguity by designing **durable systems** and delivering software that directly impacts how partners refer patients to Rula and how patients experience care - Partner with your **Engineering Manager**, working closely with **product managers, designers, and other engineers** to align technical decisions with product goals - Mentor engineers, unblock peers, and raise the technical bar across Rula - Help the team move quickly toward the right solution (product-minded, problem-solving mindset) - Use **AI-assisted development tools** (including **Claude Code**) as a normal part of workflow—forming opinions on where they add value and where human judgment is required --- ## Required Qualifications - **8+ years** of related professional experience - Deep understanding of modern application design architecture, including **API design patterns**, **security**, **performance**, and **scaling** - Experience designing and evolving system architectures, with the ability to weigh tradeoffs - Proven ability to lead complex technical projects across teams—shaping scope, estimates, and execution while aligning with business goals - Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with partners and stakeholders - Fluent with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., **Claude Code**) and able to articulate both acceleration and risk/human-judgment needs --- ## Preferred Qualifications (Helpful, but not required—please apply even if you don’t meet every item.) - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or comparable experience) - Familiarity with modern infrastructure and tooling - Experience with **distributed systems**, especially event-based paradigms - Experience building systems that interface with or integrate third parties - Comfortable troubleshooting complex production issues and advocating for reliability improvements - Experience in early-stage and/or high-growth startup environments; comfortable navigating ambiguity while influencing evolving roadmaps --- ## Benefits (Full-Time Employees) - **100% remote** (U.S.-based; not hiring in Hawaii) - **Transparent pay ranges** across the U.S. - Comprehensive health benefits: **Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HSA** - **401(k)** plan access - Generous time off, including **2 company-wide shutdown weeks** each year (for most employees) - **Paid parental leave** for all parents (birthing, non-birthing, adopting, fostering) - **Employee Assistance Program (EAP)** - **Quarterly department stipend** for team-building or in-person gatherings - Community and employee resource groups - **Home office stipend** + **$50/month** for internet/ce
