In this role, you’ll be evaluated on both your foundational skills and how you collaborate with AI, with an interview philosophy focused on how you think and explain your approach. **Role Overview** This is a **general posting** for multiple **Machine Learning Engineer** roles across Pinterest’s ML teams. By applying, you may be considered for several open roles. You’ll work on large-scale problems across areas such as recommender systems, search, ads, ranking, NLP, graph representation learning, and personalization. **What you’ll do** - Contribute to cutting-edge research in ML/AI applicable to Pinterest problems - Collect, analyze, and synthesize data findings to build intelligent, data-driven models - Write clean, efficient, and sustainable code - Use ML, NLP, and graph analysis to solve modeling and ranking problems across discovery, ads, and search - Design, build, and test models to predict engagement for notifications (push, email, in-app) - Build content recommendation systems powering push, email, and in-app notifications - Work on state-of-the-art large-scale applied ML projects - Scope and independently solve moderately complex problems **What we’re looking for** - **PhD** in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field (required) - ML experience (e.g., ranking, computer vision, NLP, content recommendations, embeddings, information retrieval) - Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop/Spark) and scalable real-time systems processing stream data - Mastery of at least one systems language (**Java, C++, Python**) or one ML framework (**TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLflow**) - Proficiency with AI-native engineering, including designing agent-friendly codebases - High autonomy in learning new agent-first development tools - Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions—validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability - Comfort iterating on prompts, refining workflows, and adapting AI-assisted approaches to problem/context/constraints - Experience in research and solving analytical problems - Strong communication and teamwork; able to find solutions for open-ended problems **Preferred Qualifications** - Publications in machine learning, AI, data science, data analytics, statistics, or related technical fields - Interest in research and applying ML to impactful real-world problems on the Pinterest product **In-Office Requirement Statement** - Collaboration style depends on the work; you may not always be in an office, but you’ll gather for key moments of collaboration - This role may require you to be located near a Pinterest office for in-person collaboration (commutable distance) **Location / Application Notes** - **#LI-HYBRID** - **US based applicants only** - Please apply **only once within the USA or Canada**, as multiple applications may delay recruitment **Compensation (Base Salary Range)** - **$174,078 – $229,044 USD** (base salary) - Equity eligibility may apply - Final salary depends on factors including location, travel, relevant experience, and skills/expertise **Commitment to Inclus
