**Engineering Manager, Crossplay Mobile Apps** **About the Role** We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the mobile engineering team building Crossplay experiences across **iOS and Android**. You’ll set the technical direction for our mobile apps, grow a high-performing team, and partner closely with **product, design, editorial, data, and platform** teams to deliver intuitive, reliable experiences. You’ll balance people leadership with strong technical judgment, establish healthy engineering practices, and help teams move quickly while maintaining **quality, accessibility, performance, privacy, and reliability**. **Responsibilities** - Lead, mentor, and develop iOS and Android engineers (Swift, Kotlin), fostering an inclusive culture of ownership and continuous improvement. - Set team direction, establish goals, and create an execution plan aligned with Crossplay’s product priorities. - Partner with product and design to shape roadmaps, define milestones, and make thoughtful tradeoffs across scope, quality, speed, and technical investment. - Guide mobile architecture and technical strategy across iOS and Android—promoting consistency where helpful while respecting platform strengths. - Improve the full development lifecycle (planning, design, implementation, testing, release management, observability, incident response) and scale best practices, including **AI-assisted tools** to accelerate delivery. - Demonstrate support for the value of **journalistic independence** and commitment to the mission. **Basic Qualifications** - 1+ years of strategic leadership experience managing native mobile engineering teams (hiring, coaching, performance management, organizational planning). - Deep technical fluency building complex, high-performance mobile apps; strong fundamentals across architecture, release processes, testing, observability, and performance optimization. - Track record shipping and operating high-quality consumer mobile applications at meaningful scale; guiding roadmaps (ideally both iOS and Android). - Experience leading cross-functional product development from strategy through delivery and iteration. - Experience prioritizing customer value, engineering health, and long-term maintainability. - Proven ability to navigate technical ambiguity and drive clarity across long-term initiatives. - Advocate and facilitate continuous improvement and learning. - Knowledgeable and passionate about **AI coding tools** for mobile development. **Preferred Qualifications** - Track record leveraging AI tooling to drive efficiency in complex mobile workflows. - Experience partnering with web and backend engineers to build end-to-end products. - Experience building reusable platform capabilities that amplify multiple mobile native teams. **Location / Work Model** Hybrid role based in **New York City** headquarters.
