**Cybersecurity Internship — Summer 2027 (Varda)** **About Varda** Low Earth orbit is open for business. Varda is accelerating the development of commercial space infrastructure—from in-orbit pharmaceutical processing to reliable and economical reentry capsules. **About This Role** - **Internship timing:** May–June (exact dates depend on the university schedule) - **Schedule:** Full-time, **on-site** in **El Segundo, CA** - **Eligibility:** Must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program You’ll support Varda’s Information Security team with day-to-day work, including monitoring security alerts, documenting findings clearly, and helping prepare for upcoming cybersecurity certification and an audit. **Responsibilities** - Review daily security alerts: read, determine what they are, and document actions taken - Help configure and improve security tools (e.g., **Zscaler, CrowdStrike, ThreatLocker, Darktrace, AlienVault**) by tuning settings, reducing noisy alerts, and ensuring proper operation - Maintain up-to-date security event logs for clear incident history and handling records - Pull and organize sample logs to support auditor requests - Track reports from an outside security partner (ensure timely arrival and correct filing) - Upload reports and updates into compliance-tracking software - Own one larger summer project from start to finish (examples: logging gaps report, refreshed incident response guide, or a simple dashboard) **What You Will Learn** - How an information security team operates day-to-day when preparing for a security audit - How daily activities (alerts, documentation, log storage) become audit-ready proof - Hands-on experience with real security tools protecting computers, networks, web traffic, software, and user accounts - How to write clearly about technical problems for non-technical audiences - How different roles on an InfoSec team collaborate (analyst, engineer, compliance, and external partners) **What We Are Looking For** - Current undergrad in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, information systems, or a related major - Coursework or self-study in at least **two** areas: networking, operating systems, user accounts/password management, incident response, or security monitoring - Comfortable reading logs and working with data in spreadsheets; familiar with basic scripting - Clear written communication (notes and reports others rely on) - Organized, detail-oriented, and willing to ask questions - Authorized to work in the United States for the full internship duration **without visa sponsorship** **Nice to Have** - Working toward beginner certifications (e.g., **CompTIA Security+** or **Network+**) - Hands-on experience with security tools (home lab, school club, CTF) - Exposure to tools such as **Zscaler, CrowdStrike, ThreatLocker, Darktrace, AlienVault, Okta, or Vanta** - Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., **NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, CMMC**) - Ability to write simple scripts in **Python, PowerShell, or Bash** **Compensation** - **$33.00/hour** - **Housing stipend** for interns relocating to the area - **Commuter benefit** to support local transportation *Benefits vary by position; packages are designed for regular full-time employees and interns.*
