**Toast — Staff Software Engineer (Tech Lead), Scheduling (Team Management Suite)** Toast builds technology that helps restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world—streamlining operations, increasing revenue, engaging customers, and keeping employees happy. We’re looking for a **Staff Software Engineer** to help build the **Scheduling** product as part of Toast’s **Team Management Suite** for restaurant employers. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering scalable software that enables restaurant owners to create an optimal labor plan—balancing profitability, employee predictability/flexibility, and guest satisfaction. --- ## What you’ll do - Lead deep technical initiatives to increase Toast’s consumer footprint and improve employee engagement within restaurants - Design solutions that anticipate future needs while considering tradeoffs - Participate in architectural discussions and influence the technical roadmap - Collaborate with Design, Product, and other engineering teams to build robust, scalable full-stack applications - Champion engineering excellence and raise the bar for your team and the company - Leverage cutting-edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and pioneer new approaches to how we build --- ## About this role (requirements) - **8+ years** of back-end experience in **Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages** - Proficiency with modern **API design** (**TypeScript, REST, GraphQL**) and **relational databases** or other data stores (e.g., **PostgreSQL, DynamoDB**) - Balanced expertise: can design high-level solutions while staying deeply connected to code execution and system performance - Demonstrated technical leadership; able to drive cross-team alignment and influence engineering, product, and business stakeholders - Proven track record building partnerships across engineering, product, customer success, and other stakeholders - Experience maintaining a high bar for quality in team deliverables - Strong customer empathy and a drive to improve lives through thoughtful UX, robust technical solutions, and continuous product improvement --- ## AI at Toast Toast values learning and building with AI.
