About this role

## About Roblox Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences—created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine how people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. A career at Roblox means shaping the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone. ## Team: Engine Scalability We’re looking for an outstanding engineer to join our **Engine Scalability** team. This team builds the systems that power both **Avatars** and **Environments** across Roblox. Our mission: enable millions of developers to build **large, high-fidelity worlds** and **multiplayer experiences** that still run smoothly on **phones and low-end devices**. You’ll help Roblox experiences evolve from simple platformers into **massively multiplayer, open-world, AAA-quality games**—a CEO-level priority focused on making higher-fidelity avatars and environments performant at platform scale. ## You Will - Design and ship **3D engine systems** for avatar and environment geometry, including **mesh processing, level of detail, transcoding, streaming, runtime loading**, and related performance systems. - Partner closely with other teams (**Rendering, Avatar, Studio**) and external developers so your features are directly usable to create amazing experiences. - Profile and improve game engine performance across a wide range of devices, with particular attention to **mobile**. - Drive projects end-to-end, collaborate with other engineers, and contribute to maintaining strong technical quality and code health. ## You Have - **Experience:** 3+ years of professional experience building and shipping **performance-sensitive software**. Experience in game engines, real-time simulation, robotics, AR/VR, or similar is a plus. Contributions to features in a large codebase are a plus. - **Knowledge:** Proficient in **C++** and able to write clean, readable, maintainable code. Hands-on experience in at least one area of real-time 3D (rendering, mesh/geometry processing, LOD, animation/skinning, spatial data, asset pipelines, or GPU/client performance) is a plus. - **Ownership:** Can take a well-scoped problem from design through implementation and rollout; asks questions and gathers context when requirements are unclear. - **Teamwork:** Collaborates well with partner teams (Engine, Rendering, Avatar, Studio, and developer-facing teams) and can explain technical topics clearly. - **Curiosity & Growth:** Eager to learn new technologies (including AI-assisted tools) and apply them to practical problems; open to feedback and wants to grow technical scope over time. ## Pay & Location Notes - **San Mateo, CA (HQ-based roles):** Starting base pay range is **$153,120–$196,750 USD** (actual base pay depends on job-related factors). Equity compensation and benefits are also available. - Office roles are **onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday**, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted). ## Equal Opportunity Roblox is an equal opportunity employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type.
