## Senior Software Development Engineer **Location:** Austin, TX **Travel:** < 5% **Manages Others:** No ### Overview At **BusPatrol**, we’re transforming student transportation safety through cutting-edge technology and real-time automated enforcement. We’re seeking a **Full Stack Developer** to help evolve our platform—from a legacy monolith to a modern, microservices-based **Automated Safety Platform**. As a Full Stack SWE on the **Ticketing** team, you’ll drive modernization for **scale, performance, and future innovation**, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver resilient, secure, customer-focused experiences. ### Key Responsibilities - Lead efforts to **decompose monolithic applications** into scalable, modular **microservices** - Design, develop, and maintain **clean, efficient, well-tested** code across backend (**Python, Ruby**) and frontend (**React/Angular**) stacks - Build and evolve **secure, high-performance APIs** for real-time data pipelines and customer-facing applications - Partner cross-functionally with **Product, QA, DevOps, and Data Engineering** to deliver end-to-end solutions - Contribute to architecture decisions improving **performance, observability, security, maintainability, and scalability/reusability** - Champion engineering best practices: **CI/CD, TDD, pair programming, code reviews** - Own projects from **ideation through deployment**, with iterative improvement - Provide a proactive voice in **platform strategy** and continuous learning - Contribute to **cloud-native infrastructure** using **AWS serverless** technologies (e.g., **Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, S3**) ### Preferred Qualifications - **5+ years** software development experience; strong backend foundation in **Python (must-have)** and **Ruby (nice to have)** - Experience with modern front-end frameworks: **React, Angular, or VueJS** - **3+ years** with backend web frameworks (e.g., **Django, Flask, Rails**) - Hands-on **AWS**: **Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway, CloudWatch** - Comfortable in **agile**, **test-driven** environments with modern DevOps tooling - Practical knowledge of **REST APIs**, **SQL/NoSQL** (MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB), and **GraphQL** - Experience with **event-driven services** (e.g., **AWS EventBridge, SNS/SQS**) for decoupled microservices - Experience designing/consuming **gRPC** APIs (plus) - Proficient with **Docker** and **CI/CD** pipelines - Familiar with testing/linting tools (e.g., **pytest, rspec, jest, Flake8, RuboCop**) - Excellent communicator; collaborative mindset; passion for mentoring and peer reviews - **BS/MS in Computer Science** or equivalent experience ### Why Join Us - Mission-driven work making roads safer for students and communities - Help architect the future of our **Automated Safety Platform** - Work with modern **cloud-native, serverless** technologies - Collaborate with a global, inclusive, high-performing team
