## About Affirm At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most. ## Team & Role The **Streaming team** at Affirm is responsible for all things data and drives the strategy for **event-driven architecture**, **stream processing**, **data exploration**, **discovery**, and **validation**. We leverage open source technologies like **Kafka**, **Flink**, and **Schema Registry**, and we build our own tools when needed. As a member of the team, you’ll identify and execute on new use cases for data infrastructure, design and scale existing infrastructure, and partner with other teams to promote the optimal use of data across the company. ## What You’ll Do - Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver work in multiple phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery (with support from your tech lead and manager). - Partner with product management, design, and analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and helping make decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. - Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and contributing to “keep the lights on” and on-call efforts. - Build community on your team through growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process. ## What We Look For - **1.5+ years** of experience as a software engineer. - Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficient in **Python or Kotlin**. - Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies such as **AWS**, **Kafka**, **Flink**, and **Kubernetes**. - Ability to take a simple problem/business scenario into a solution spanning multiple software components—writing clear, well-tested, extensible code. - Comfort navigating a large codebase, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback through code reviews. - Demonstrated ownership of growth—proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders. - Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team. - Requires either equivalent practical experience or a **Bachelor’s degree** in a related field. ## Compensation & Location - **Base Pay Grade:** L - **Equity Grade:** 6 - **USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT):** $165,000 – $225,000 / year - **USA base pay range (all other U.S. states):** $146,000 – $206,000 / year - Remote-first with flexibility built in (most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment).
