**Software Engineer, Program Engineering** **About Block** Block is built from many teams united by the purpose of economic empowerment. The Compliance Program Engineering team builds core infrastructure that supports Block’s compliance program and the product teams that depend on it. **The Role** As a full stack software engineer on Compliance Program Engineering, you’ll design, build, and operate platforms that help Block meet regulatory obligations—so investigators, analysts, and automated systems can understand what’s happening across Block’s ecosystem and act on it. You’ll focus on two areas: - **Unified transaction store and search**: Bring transaction data from across Block’s products into one place for search, understanding, and reuse. Improve data coverage, quality, and usability, and build self-serve onboarding tools for new product types. - **Entity labeling, ingestion, and workflow**: Provide a flexible way to label entities (e.g., customers, accounts, transactions) without cluttering core data models. Labels can trigger downstream effects and support complex workflows via self-serve tools and high-volume bulk ingestion. **You Will** - Partner with your team to design, develop, test, ship, and maintain features across transaction and labeling platforms - Write high-quality, well-tested code and participate in design/code reviews - Build systems for microservice and event-driven architectures, handling sensitive customer and financial data with care and correctness - Improve transaction data coverage, quality, and usability so teams can trust and act on it - Build self-serve tools and high-volume ingestion pipelines for onboarding and labeling at scale - Work directly with Compliance, Risk, and product teams to turn requirements into durable, reusable platform capabilities - Participate in operational ownership (on-call, incident response, postmortems) - Demonstrate AI fluency by using AI-powered tools responsibly to improve velocity and quality - Hold yourself and teammates to high engineering standards - Learn from and support other engineers through code reviews and technical discussion **You Have** - 3+ years of software development (or equivalent experience) - Experience delivering end-to-end production software (design → build → test → ship → operate) - Experience across the stack (backend services and operational interfaces) - A drive to find and fix flaws in complex systems - Curiosity for partially specified problems and the habit of asking the right questions - Ability to explain technical tradeoffs in writing and in person - Demonstrated AI fluency, including critical evaluation and responsible application of AI outputs - Bachelor’s degree or diploma in CS/CE/Software Engineering (or equivalent experience) **Even Better** - Experience building platforms or self-serve tools other teams build on - Experience with search systems, data modeling, or bulk data ingestion at scale - Experience working with sensitive data (PII/PCI) or building for privacy/security/regulatory requirements - Experience integrating LLMs/agents into production workflows - Interest in compliance or financial technology (domain expertise not required) **Technologies We Use and Teach** - Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq - Java, Kotlin - React, TypeScript - AWS - HTTP, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers - MySQL, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis - Kafka, event-driven architecture, microservices - Datadog - Buildkite, Gradle - LLMs, AI agents and tooling (Goose, Claud
