**Software Engineering Intern, UX/UI 2027** **Company:** ACS (Allen Control Systems) - Defense technology company building precision robotic systems **Location:** Austin, TX (On-site) **Duration:** Summer 2027 (~10-12 weeks) **Pay:** Paid Internship **What You'll Do:** • Design and iterate on user interfaces for Android, tablet, embedded, and internal applications • Create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and high-fidelity designs • Work closely with engineers to bring designs to life using Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI frameworks • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand user needs • Design for real-time systems where responsiveness and clarity matter • Explore interaction patterns for touchscreens, gamepads, and other input methods • Help establish and maintain consistent UI patterns and design systems • Participate in user feedback, usability testing, and iterative design reviews • Contribute to the full product development cycle from concept to implementation **What We're Looking For:** • Currently pursuing a degree in UX/UI Design, HCI, Interaction Design, CS, or related field • Coursework or project experience in UI/UX, interaction design, or mobile development • Portfolio demonstrating your approach to solving user problems through design • Familiarity with design tools like Figma • Interest in designing interfaces for technical, real-time, or complex systems • Strong attention to detail and communication skills • Basic understanding of software development concepts • Builder's mindset and willingness to iterate **You'll Stand Out With:** • Experience designing for mobile, tablet, embedded, or real-time applications • Android, Jetpack Compose, or Kotlin experience • Interactive prototypes or production design system work • Experience with game-like interactions or non-traditional input methods • Accessibility and responsive design knowledge • Direct collaboration experience with software engineers • Interest in robotics, autonomy, or technically complex products **Why Join ACS:** Direct impact on real-world products • Real ownership from day one • Meaningful problems at startup scale • Cross-functional learning • Mentorship from experienced engineers
