**Machine Learning Engineer, Applied AI** **About Brain Co.** Brain Co. builds AI-native operating systems for large, regulated institutions. We're entering our next phase of production deployments on a national scale with an elite team from Palantir, Google, Meta, and Nvidia. **About the Role** You'll work on frontier ML applied where it matters most—turning ambiguous customer problems into production decision systems that institutions stake their processes on. This isn't about impressive demos; it's about institutional-grade accuracy and real workflow impact. **Key Responsibilities** • Turn ambiguity into shipped systems—from no problem statement to production deployments • Own AI systems end-to-end, from training to production behavior • Work at the research frontier with production stakes using LLMs, RL fine-tuning, and agentic systems • Collaborate directly with institutions (permit reviewers, underwriters, compliance officers) to understand real decision-making • Engineer for production reality: accuracy, latency, cost, and reliability in messy environments • Build evaluation suites and failure-mode taxonomies for institutional sign-off **Problems You'll Tackle** • Composite AI systems: chaining vision transformers, segmentation models, VLM reasoning, and rule engines • Document understanding: blueprints, policies, contracts, clinical records that break off-the-shelf models • Agents that learn from verified, ground-truth outcomes in real deployments • Institutional intelligence that compounds across applications **Who We're Looking For** You understand ML philosophy deeply—loss functions, generalization, distribution shift, and why evaluation is critical. You have hard-won instincts for squeezing the most out of LLMs and agentic systems. You know when a fine-tuned model beats a VLM, when a rule engine beats both, and how to compose them into something better than any single component. You're energized by building things that have never existed.
