## Database Administrator ### Overview - Design and architect database solutions - Act as Level 3 support/SME for medium to very complex database issues - Provide in-depth database needs across design, performance, deployment, and ongoing support - Automate routine tasks and bring new skills/technology to improve supporting applications - Ensure standards for physical data storage, maintenance, access, and security administration ### Key Responsibilities - Design and architect database solutions - Optimize database access and allocate/re-allocate resources for best configuration, performance, and cost - Perform data analysis to provide timely, accurate management reporting and forecast future requirements - Ensure internal/external service level agreements (SLAs) are met - Provide strategic engineering solutions and take ownership of projects (including tech-stack upgrades) - Monitor database performance, availability, and capacity - Perform backup and recovery, configure database parameters, and support prototype designs against logical data models - Define data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements - Perform installation, monitoring, administration, scripting, analysis, and tuning for database management systems - Troubleshoot database and integration components (e.g., Service Broker queues/messages and stuck message flows) - Provide BizTalk SQL Server support and act as SME for message SLA support - Develop, implement, and test backup/recovery policies and procedures - Create and maintain documentation for database policies, procedures, and processes - Schedule and perform routine maintenance to keep databases running at peak performance - Review storage utilization and perform trend analysis for incident remediation and prevention - Participate in continuous business process redesign to improve internal operations - Interface with business/user departments remotely and on-site to support work requests and operational needs - Research and evaluate new RDBMS options for potential implementation ### Knowledge & Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent combination of education/training/work experience - 9+ years of experience with multiple database management systems across design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and administration - Required to participate in a **24x7 on-call rotation** ### Required Skills - Expert knowledge of **SQL Server** (2012, 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2022; **SQL 2025 is a plus**) - Expert knowledge of SQL performance and tuning - Expert knowledge of **Microsoft Distributed Availability Group (DAG)** and **Always-On Availability Groups** (local and geographically dispersed data centers) - Extensive knowledge of task automation - Strong database design and analysis skills - Expert knowledge of backup and recovery operations - Expert knowledge of database encryption (Always Encrypted, Protegrity, TDE, TLS) - Expert knowledge of OS, storage, and network layers for troubleshooting - Strong relational database concepts and terminology - Ability to monitor and tune databases/instances and maintain availability, security, and integrity - Ability to focus on production/customer needs and deliverables - Ability to adapt to new tools as adopted within IT - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Self-motivated team player with a strong track record in customer satisfaction - Demonstrated experience with successful system and pr
