**Principal Flight Software Engineer** **About Rocket Lab** Rocket Lab is the end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems that keep the world connected, protected, and expand humanity's reach to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. **The Role** Based in Long Beach, CA, you'll develop flight software for our Space Systems programs, participating in all aspects from requirements definition through coding and testing. Your software will be on orbit within weeks and months, not years. **What You'll Do** • Develop application software for Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and/or embedded Linux • Develop hardware drivers for IMUs, Star Trackers, Reaction Wheels, and other spacecraft sensors • Develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests within a Continuous Integration framework • Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test engineers on software and hardware verification • Work with systems engineers on requirements development and validation • Participate in code reviews and design reviews (PDR, CDR) • Assist with on-orbit and interplanetary flight operations **Required Qualifications** • Bachelor's degree in engineering (software, computer, electrical, aerospace, or related discipline) • 12+ years of embedded software development experience • Proficiency in Rust, C++, and C • Experience with RTOS or Embedded Linux • Experience leading junior developers and collaborating across disciplines • Active Security clearance OR ability to obtain and maintain one • U.S. citizenship required **Nice to Have** • Master's or PhD in engineering • Experience with CAN/CAN-FD and/or UDP/TCP in embedded systems • Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles in harsh environments **Compensation** Total Compensation: $210,000 – $324,000 USD Base Salary: $160,000 – $245,000 USD Includes company stock, ESPP (15% discount), medical/dental/vision, paid time off, 401(k) match, and additional perks.
