**Realize your potential with Taboola** As a **Senior Backend Engineer** on the **R&D Team** in **Downtown Los Angeles**, you’ll help build and improve Taboola’s **recommendation infrastructure** powering **Realize**—Taboola’s performance advertising platform serving **600M+ daily active users**. This team is critical for Taboola’s **cookie-less future**, and the services you build directly impact **campaign performance** and **revenue outcomes** for publishers and advertisers worldwide. --- **What you’ll need** - **Bachelor’s or advanced degree** in a relevant field (ideally Computer Science, Engineering, or similar) - **5+ years** of hands-on **Java** development and **Spring Framework** experience - Strong understanding of **databases** and **search/serving** concepts; experience with **relational** and **NoSQL** (e.g., **MySQL**, **Cassandra**) - Experience with **big data processing/analytics** (e.g., **Apache Spark**, **Hadoop**, **Google BigQuery**) - Experience with **containerization & orchestration** (**Docker**, **Kubernetes**) - Experience with **Git** and modern version control - Strong backend integration knowledge: **microservices**, **RESTful APIs**, and **event-driven messaging** (e.g., **Kafka**) - Experience building/scaling **real-time search, recommendation, or vector-search pipelines** (e.g., **Vespa**, or **Elasticsearch/Solr**) - **System architecture mindset**: scalable, reliable, high-performance systems - Ability to take **end-to-end ownership** using **AI-assisted tools** (e.g., Cursor, Claude, Codex) - Clear communication and cross-team collaboration (including early morning/evening syncs with the **Tel Aviv** team) - Experience supporting **production systems** (on-call, troubleshooting live issues, driving root-cause fixes) **Bonus points** - Experience building **models/algorithms/infrastructure** for large-scale **data mining** and **ML** systems - **Python** experience --- **How you’ll make an impact** - Partner with Product and architects to deliver optimal technology solutions - Work in a **SCRUM** environment: design, code, and manage integration projects from conception to completion - Build **highly scalable backend services** and **robust data pipelines** handling billions of high-throughput events and terabytes of data daily - Take end-to-end ownership: design, build, measure, and maintain complex backend systems (using AI coding assistants as a force multiplier, with strong engineering discipline and rigorous code review) - Mentor junior/mid-level developers - Own service health in production: monitor performance, respond to incidents, lead root-cause analysis, and drive improvements at scale --- **Why Taboola?** - Empowered culture focused on realizing your full potential - **Well-being**: comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k matching), fully stocked kitchen, parking - **Flexibility**: hybrid schedule with **3 days in-office** (option to come in more) - Work with major publisher and advertiser partners (e.g., Yahoo, NBCU, ESPN, CBS, Wells Fargo, Honda, Pinterest, Expedia) --- **Equal Opportunity Employer** Taboola is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in all forms. **Location/Work Style:** #LI-RT1, #LI-Hybrid **Base Salary Pay Range:** **$165,000 – $185,000 USD** *Pay may vary by location and experience.
