As an R&D Lead, you’ll shape both cutting-edge AI products and security-first development from day one. **About the Role** We’re seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to guide our product team in developing and deploying scalable, AI-enabled systems. You’ll take end-to-end ownership of major backend and data initiatives, mentor a team of engineers, and collaborate with Product, Research, Operation, Sales, and Information Security to maintain robust compliance. **What You’ll Do** - Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, AI-driven backend and data systems. - Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of R&D projects (concept → prototyping → deployment), ensuring timely delivery and quality. - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. - Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and stakeholders to define requirements and deliver innovative solutions. - Serve as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO): develop, implement, and enforce information security policies and procedures. - Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and protect the integrity and confidentiality of information assets. **What We’d Like to See in You** - 6+ years of professional software development experience, with 2+ years in a lead/tech-lead role. - Strong backend expertise: Java, C++, Scala, Python + cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS) and data frameworks (e.g., Spark). - Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, microservices, and distributed systems. - Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases. - Strong engineering practices: version control, CI/CD, unit testing, code reviews. - Experience architecting and deploying production-grade systems and mentoring engineers. - Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. - Proactive leadership: self-directed, resourceful, comfortable steering projects in ambiguity. - Passion for learning, innovation, and advancing AI-driven products. **Preferred Qualifications** - Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. - Experience with security best practices (OWASP, secure coding, API security). - Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, EO 14117). - Experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code. **Culture Fit** - **Mission alignment:** Use AI to dramatically improve people’s lives. - **Self-directed:** Driven, motivated, and able to independently pursue meaningful work. - **Hungry to learn:** Eager to learn—learning is hard work and you enjoy it. - **Team orientation:** Small, fast-moving teams—no lone wolves; you watch out for each other and go after big goals together. **Compensation** Base Salary Pay Range: **$159k - $229k USD**
