**Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform** **About the Team** The Data Platform team builds foundational data services, systems, and data products that benefit Okta users. Today, the team enables: - Streaming analytics - Interactive end-user reporting - Data and ML platform for Okta to scale - Telemetry of Okta products and data **About the Position** Join Okta’s fast-growing Data Platform organization to scale high-volume, low-latency distributed data-platform services and data products. You’ll design, build, and deploy systems powering data analytics and ML, working with engineers across the organization. The analytics infrastructure stack includes Kinesis, Flink, ElasticSearch, and Snowflake. You’ll help design and own the building, deployment, and optimization of streaming infrastructure, with a directive to make Okta a leader in using data and machine learning to improve end-user security. **Job Duties and Responsibilities** - Design, implement, and own data-intensive, high-performance, scalable platform components - Collaborate with engineering teams, architects, and cross-functional partners on project development, design, and implementation - Participate in design reviews, code reviews, analysis, and performance tuning - Coach and mentor engineers to scale the organization - Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack **Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities** - 4+ years of software development experience - Proficient in at least one language; comfortable with multiple backend languages (preferably Java or TypeScript, Ruby, Go, or Python) - Experience with at least one database technology: MySQL, Redis, or PostgreSQL - Strong computer science fundamentals and API design skills - Comfortable working with a geographically distributed extended team; ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and customer focus - Track record of delivering work incrementally to get feedback and iterate - Comfortable with React or similar front-end UI stacks (or willing to learn) **Nice to Have** - Experience with cloud-based distributed computing technologies, including: - Messaging systems (e.g., Kinesis, Kafka) - Data processing systems (e.g., Flink, Spark, Beam) - Storage & compute systems (e.g., Snowflake, Hadoop) - Coordinators/schedulers (e.g., Kubernetes, Hadoop, Mesos) - Experience maintaining security, encryption, identity management, or authentication infrastructure - Leveraged major public cloud providers to build mission-critical, high-volume services - Hands-on experience building data integration applications at large scale (petabyte scale), across batch and online systems - Contributed to distributed systems used at high volume or criticality (e.g., Kafka or Hadoop) **Additional Requirements** - No citizenship requirement.
