## Sr. Software Engineer (Backend) — Hims & Hers ### About the Role Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. As a **Sr. Software Engineer (Backend)**, you’ll be a key technical leader responsible for designing and implementing **scalable, high-performance** solutions across backend systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and help shape the direction of the platform. ### You Will - Lead the design and architecture of **scalable, performant backend solutions** aligned to product requirements. - Provide technical guidance and mentorship on **best practices, design patterns, and coding standards**. - Advocate for your team’s technical needs and priorities across engineering. - Participate in product discovery to assess feasibility, define features, and validate ideas with prototypes/experiments. - Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure **seamless integration** across systems and services. - Contribute to the team/platform vision by identifying strategic technologies and investments to improve **security, scalability, reliability, and performance**. - Break down complex projects into clear, actionable tasks. - Implement **observability** (logging, monitoring, alerting) to ensure reliability and performance. - Elevate engineering standards by improving workflows, processes, and tools. - Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to drive optimization. - Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture and development processes. - Conduct code reviews and support knowledge sharing. - Identify performance bottlenecks and propose enhancements. - Stay current with industry trends and propose innovative solutions. - Assist with interviews and onboarding. - Model a culture of open communication and continuous improvement through coaching and constructive feedback. ### You Have - **5+ years** as a software engineer shipping production code. - **3+ years** in backend distributed system design, development, and delivery. - **3+ years** with **microservice architectures**. - Bachelor’s (or higher) in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience. - Proven experience building **scalable web applications/services**, preferably in a cloud environment. - Proficiency delivering/hosting front ends and microservices on **Kubernetes and AWS**. - Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking. - Experience with **Agile** development and delivery. - Experience with **CI/CD** including unit tests and end-to-end integration tests. - Relational databases experience (**PostgreSQL preferred**). - Strong communication and collaboration skills. - Ability to prioritize multiple projects without management oversight. ### Preferred Qualifications - Healthcare tech, wearables, or connected device data experience. - Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks such as **React, React Native, NextJS**). - Experience building developer frameworks/tools (contributed to a framework itself). - Web performance optimization experience. ### Our Benefits (Highlights) - Competitive salary & equity compensation - Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days - Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental & vision) + parental leave - Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) - 401k with employer matching - Offsite team retreats ### Equal Opportunity / Accommodation Notes Hims considers all qualified applicants.
