Join a collaborative, caring team where you can grow through hands-on experience, certifications, and training. --- ## Role Overview The Software Engineer will support the ongoing operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the CMS Health Insurance Oversight System (HIOS). You’ll work comfortably across both legacy and modern components in a complex federal production environment. You’ll troubleshoot production issues, resolve defects, implement approved enhancements, address technical debt, and help modernize legacy components without disrupting ongoing operations. --- ## What You’ll Do - Design, develop, test, document, and maintain secure, production-quality software - Build and support Java/Spring backend services, APIs, business logic, database integrations, and React- or Angular-based user interfaces - Analyze existing code and system behavior to diagnose complex application, integration, data, and performance issues - Support legacy production applications while contributing to incremental modernization and maintainability improvements - Write and optimize SQL queries, database objects, and data-access components using PostgreSQL - Participate in code reviews, automated testing, defect resolution, release preparation, deployment validation, and production support - Work in AWS-hosted environments and established CI/CD processes using Jenkins and GitHub --- ## What You Must Have - Bachelor’s degree and at least **4 years** of relevant software development experience - Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy production systems on a federal program, including working within formal security, release, change-control, and operational-support processes - Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills—balancing new development with production stability and continuity of service --- ## Pay Range (Base) **$97,500 — $115,200 USD** (for the listed states/locations) *Note: Compensation varies based on factors such as location, role, skill set, and experience.
