You’ll be part of a backend team solving large-scale **video streaming and recording** challenges to deliver real-time control and visibility into customers’ cameras. You’ll work with **Go, C#, TypeScript, AWS, Kubernetes, SQS, SNS, ffmpeg, and WebRTC**. **Key pillars:** reliability, simplicity, and performance. --- **Primary responsibilities** - Bring your video expertise to build and improve SimpliSafe’s video services - Partner with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and design simple, reliable, flexible solutions - Drive implementation by writing code, supporting engineers with code reviews, and mentoring - Provide long-term support (performance optimization, bug fixes, feature additions, design/usability improvements, automation) - Document systems so they can be maintained by future developers - Serve as an on-call first responder for software owned by your team --- **What you’ll bring** - **10+ years** of industry experience, including end-to-end ownership of a production backend system architecture - **4+ years** designing/building/operating a real-time or low-latency video streaming service (e.g., HLS/DASH) - Experience architecting cloud video storage at scale (storage tiers, lifecycle/archival policies, retention strategies for millions of devices) - Experience designing metadata and indexing systems for fast retrieval and scrubbing of recorded clips (by camera, timestamp, event) - Deep expertise implementing **HLS/DASH**, **fMP4**, **H.264**, and **AAC** - Familiarity with video streaming standards (adaptive bitrate packaging, codecs like HEVC/AV1, and protocols like SRT/RTMP/WHIP/MoQ) - Experience with **WebRTC, GStreamer, ffmpeg, or libav** - Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive technical decision-making - Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Go, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, etc.) - Passion, curiosity, and a desire to continuously learn and grow - Extensive experience with **AWS, GCP, or Azure** - Excellent problem-solving skills and a track record of breaking down complexity - IoT/smart home video streaming experience is a plus - Familiarity with **Agile Scrum** --- **Values you’ll share** - **Customer Obsessed** - **Aim High** - **No Ego** - **One Team** - **Lift As We Climb** - **Lean & Nimble** --- **What we offer** - Mission- and values-driven culture in a safe, inclusive environment - Comprehensive total rewards package supporting wellness and security for SimpliSafers and their families - Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home -
