## Software Engineering Intern — Embark 2027 (11-Week Summer Internship) Turn your classroom learning into real-world impact with **H&R Block’s Embark 2027 Summer Internship Program**. This **11-week paid** internship is open to students studying **Computer Science** and **Software Engineering**. **Dates:** May 17, 2027 – July 30, 2027 **Location:** Corporate headquarters in downtown **Kansas City’s Power & Light District** --- ### Program Highlights - **$25/hour** compensation - **Paid PTO** during H&R Block’s annual **Reboot Week** (June 28 – July 2) - **Housing stipend** for students whose permanent address is more than **50 miles** from the KC metro - Onsite amenities including **Starbucks**, company dining hall, **free fitness center**, and **free parking** --- ### What You’ll Do Under the guidance of a leader, responsibilities may include: - Research, gather, and organize data for special projects or reports - Collaborate with **QA**, **User Experience**, and other teams to align on requirements and approach - **Write, test, debug, and maintain** code supporting real products and customer experiences - Investigate technical problems and help implement solutions - Participate in **Agile** activities (stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and ceremonies) - Perform **code reviews** and incorporate feedback - Learn existing applications, systems, architecture, and development practices while contributing to an established codebase - Design, develop, and maintain software components for H&R Block business applications - Use tools, languages, coding standards, and best practices to build features and enhance year-over-year functionality You’ll receive significant guidance and mentoring, with opportunities to work independently. --- ### Embark Program Workshops & Events (4 Pillars) - **Professional Development:** basics for a professional role (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, presentations) - **Giveback:** community service through **Make Every Block Better** - **Networking:** meet executives, have lunch with directors/VPs, and connect with mentors and peers - **Connected Culture:** team-building and fun events (e.g., Royals game or other competitions) --- ### Required Qualifications - **High school diploma** or equivalent - Pursuing a degree in **Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering**, or similar - **GPA of 3.0+** - Ability to work on a **diverse team** and independently - Highly motivated, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented - Strong **written and verbal communication** skills - Quick learner; comfortable with new computer-based programs and databases - Ability to contribute in a **fast-paced corporate environment** - **No previous work experience required** --- ### Preferred Qualifications - Foundational knowledge of software development concepts, **OOP**, and the **SDLC** - Exposure to one or more languages such as **C#, .NET, Python, Java, JavaScript**, or similar - Familiarity with **cloud** and development environments, especially **Microsoft Azure** - Exposure to web services, **APIs**, microservices, event-driven architecture, or cloud-native development - Familiarity with **relational and/or NoSQL** databases (e.g., SQL Server, Cosmos DB) - Interest in **mobile** development - Familiarity with **source control**, **CI/CD**, and collaboration tools (e.g., **Git**, **Azure DevOps**) - Interest in **AI-first** software engineering and responsible use of AI-assisted d
