This role focuses on working with **messy unstructured EHR data** (clinical text and imaging) to support **Verana Qdata®** products and real-world insight generation. --- ## What You Get to Do - Evaluate, fine-tune, deploy, and monitor **pretrained language models** for healthcare applications - Drive research in language modeling with emphasis on **scientific accuracy** and **explainability** - Communicate results to multidisciplinary audiences with clear, intuitive visualizations - Establish and maintain best practices for **data exploration**, end-to-end model development, deployment lifecycle, and data/code/documentation management - Contribute to **Qdata development** (study plans, analyses, algorithms, and/or publications) - Translate clinical investigation questions into detailed data analytics requirements - Mentor and share knowledge to standardize ML/NLP best practices --- ## Skills & Experience That Will Help You Succeed - **Doctorate** in a quantitative discipline (or **Master’s** with relevant experience) - **5+ years** hands-on experience with messy data (e.g., EHR/outcomes) and analytical methodologies - **3+ years** ML model implementation & deployment (especially for clinical notes; imaging is a plus) - **3+ years** hands-on experience with **transformer architectures / LLMs** (e.g., fine-tuning, RAG, BERT/RoBERTa) for tasks like NER, text classification, relation extraction - Strong familiarity with **Python, PySpark, R, SQL** - Familiarity with platforms such as **Databricks** and **Amazon SageMaker** - Strong unstructured text processing experience - Familiarity with clinical datasets/coding systems such as **ICD, CPT, RxNorm** - Ability to work effectively cross-functionally and communicate clearly --- ## Location / Work Model - Headquarters: **San Francisco** (additional offices in **Knoxville, TN** and **New York City**) - Hybrid priority for **Bay Area, NYC, and Knoxville**: **3 days/week in office**, remaining days remote - Employees must have permanent residency in one of the listed states; relocation candidates are encouraged. --- ## Authorization / Visa Note Applicants must be **authorized to work in the U.S.** Verana is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. --- ## Salary Range **$141,441 – $176,801** (a geog
