**AI Teammates — Staff Software Engineer (Technical Lead)** Asana’s **AI Teammates** are autonomous agents embedded into enterprise workflows—reasoning, acting, and proactively driving work forward. The **AI Teammates Platform (AITP)** team builds the execution engine and platform layer that makes these agents effective, reliable, and scalable. You’ll lead the technical strategy, architecture, and execution for the **AI Teammates Platform**, bridging frontier AI capabilities with enterprise-grade engineering. You’ll partner closely with model providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and help build systems that scale to **millions of users**. --- ### What you’ll achieve - Set the technical strategy for the **execution engine, tool orchestration, and platform APIs**, advocating for engineering-driven investments that keep systems flexible, reliable, and maintainable. - Raise the bar for **clean architecture, systems reliability, and evaluation methodologies**, enabling engineers to deliver at high velocity and grow their skills. - Collaborate across Engineering and serve as a technical counterpart to the AI Teammates Engineering Manager; represent platform capabilities across teams. - Partner with **Product Management, Design, Data Science, and User Research** to understand agentic work patterns and propose solutions that make AI Teammates effective and trustworthy. - Architect and own a **composable platform foundation**, enabling other product engineering teams to build agentic capabilities in a self-serve way. - Oversee high-impact initiatives—from **proactivity and MCP integrations** to **model evals, latency tuning, and cost optimization**—ensuring safe scaling with frontier LLM updates. --- ### About you - **6+ years** of software engineering experience in large codebases, with strong backend/systems/reliability fundamentals. - **2+ years** leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead, with a track record in technical strategy, planning, and risk mitigation. - Strong interest or experience in **Applied AI / Agentic Systems** (agent orchestration, tool integration, model evaluation frameworks, RAG, production LLM observability). - Comfortable moving across contexts and codebases to quickly unblock teammates. - Strong project management: timeline planning, risk mitigation, stakeholder management, and coordinating others. - Passion for mentoring and providing thoughtful, candid feedback. - Excited to build an inclusive culture with psychological safety. --- ### Location & schedule - Based in **San Francisco** with an **office-centric hybrid** schedule. - Standard in-office days: **Monday, Tuesday, Thursday**. - Typically: **work from home on Wednesdays**. - **Fridays** depend on work type and team partnerships (your recruiter will share details). --- ### Compensation & benefits (high level) - Estimated base salary range: **$248,000 – $282,000** (final offer depends on market and qualifications). - Total compensation may include **equity** and other components depending on role. - Benefits include mental health/wellness, career coaching, family building benefits, retirement/savings plans, and in-office culinary options. --- **#LI-Hybrid #LI-AS2**
