Our vision is to reimagine how people come together—from anywhere in the world, on any device—while building safer, more civil shared experiences. **Role: Principal Software Engineer (Creator Game Operations)** As a Backend Engineer, you’ll have the independence, opportunity, and end-to-end responsibility to help build critical, complex backend systems that support creators across the Roblox ecosystem. You’ll join the **Creator Success Team**, which empowers Roblox to be the best development platform for creating 3D social experiences. This includes services and solutions around the **Creator Hub**, **Developer Forum**, and **Creator Dashboard**. You will create and own mission-critical services in a cross-discipline team. **What you’ll work on (examples)** - Build **ML-driven services** and **large-scale data pipelines** to drive player insights and optimize monetization opportunities for creators. - Build a **next-generation communication platform** to help creators manage their player community, organize virtual events, and collect feedback. - Build a **remote configuration/experimentation platform** to enable continued growth of games with the world’s largest concurrent user (CCU). **You are** - An outstanding software engineer with **8+ years** of industry experience. - Deep experience with **distributed systems** (e.g., stream processing, data pipelines, queues, RPC, retry strategies). - Experienced with **native code** and complex networked codebases (**3+ years** in C#, Java, Go, or another OOP language). - Comfortable across platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) and understand where platform-specific code matters. - Responsible for systems with **monitoring, logging, operations, and automated testing** in mind. - A strong **team player** who collaborates and challenges the status quo. **You will** - Lead technical decision-making and guide the development team. - Lead engineering and development for services and systems at massive scale. - Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-team leaders to push what’s possible. - Self-organize and take ownership of projects across their full lifecycle. **Pay & work setup (high level)** - **Annual base salary range (HQ in San Mateo, CA):** **$295,250 – $345,040 USD** - Full-time employees are also eligible for **equity compensation** and **benefits**. - Office roles are **onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday** (optional presence Monday/Friday unless otherwise noted). **Equal Opportunity** Roblox is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations during the recruiting process. *Note:* For US-based roles only, Roblox may not be able to employ candidates for certain US visa categories and may not support future **H-1B sponsorship** at this time.
