**Engineering Manager, Privacy & Governance Services** **About the Role** The New York Times is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Privacy & Governance Services team within the Data Platform mission. The team builds and maintains technical solutions that enable NYT to stay compliant with complex and rapidly changing domestic and international privacy laws. The team also enables data producers to own data quality and helps data consumers discover high-quality data for their needs. **Location:** New York City (Hybrid, 3 days/week) **Responsibilities:** • Lead a team of engineers, promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement • Coach engineers to help them make an impact while growing their careers • Build automation practices for operational needs including processes, SLAs, and escalation paths • Oversee roadmap execution and increase productivity and delivery • Collaborate with product managers and partners to define requirements and roadmaps • Guide technical decisions and architectural design for team projects • Monitor and report on initiative progress and risks • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cost attribution models for cloud solutions • Demonstrate commitment to journalistic independence and the mission to seek truth **Basic Qualifications:** • 1+ years as an engineering manager and 4+ years in technical leadership with cross-functional partners • 5+ years in full-stack software engineering designing and developing scalable, high-performance systems • Strong technical fluency and experience guiding architecture discussions • Experience developing high-performing teams and growing engineering competencies • Experience fostering a culture of high trust and productivity **Preferred Qualifications:** • Experience running engineering operations and technical projects across multiple teams • Understanding of privacy regulations and user consent/DSR management solutions • Experience collaborating with legal, compliance, and security teams • Understanding of modern data platforms, data governance, cataloging, lineage tracking, and data contracts **Compensation:** Base Salary: $160,000 – $190,000 USD Variable pay (annual bonus, restricted stock), medical/dental/vision benefits, 401(k) matching, paid time off, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and professional development programs. **REQ-020676**
