This role is for builders and owners who move with speed and urgency and execute with excellence. --- ## Device Identity and Access (ORD) The Device Identity and Access organization is a foundational pillar within Okta Research and Development (ORD), focused on transforming the device into a secure, trusted, and effortless identity factor. You’ll help ensure users can interact with their work from any endpoint, anywhere in the world—securing millions of enterprise endpoints and preventing modern identity attacks. --- ## Opportunity: Staff Software Engineer (macOS) Join Okta’s macOS engineering team to architect, build, and scale critical macOS software and services at the heart of the security and identity platform. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role where you’ll define architectural vision, pioneer new capabilities, and drive technical strategy across company-wide challenges. You’ll also serve as a key technical leader—player-coach—setting the technical standard, mentoring engineers, and partnering with engineering leadership and product management to translate business objectives into scalable technical roadmaps. --- ## What you’ll be doing - Partner with Product Management, Engineering Directors, and Principal Architects to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps. - Drive cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and QA to deliver critical initiatives. - Lead design and implementation of new features and services from conception through deployment. - Act as a force multiplier across multiple teams by mentoring Staff/Senior engineers and raising the engineering bar. - Raise the technical bar with rigorous code standards, comprehensive automated testing, and modernized CI/CD pipelines. - Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation and foster knowledge sharing. - Work in an AI-native engineering environment using AI coding assistants to accelerate delivery. - Identify emerging industry trends (e.g., advanced device security, AI-native development paradigms) and prototype solutions. --- ## Minimum requirements - 7+ years of progressive software development experience; proven track record building macOS (or iOS) features using **Swift**. - Deep expertise in macOS (or iOS) software environments, including design/performance optimization and security considerations. - Advanced debugging and performance optimization using **Xcode, LLDB, and Instruments** (memory issues, concurrency bugs). - Experience in fast-paced agile environments with strong CI/CD and automated testing fundamentals. - Excellent communication skills; ability to explain complex technical concepts and influence technical direction. - Proficiency using AI coding assistants (e.g., **Claude Code**, **GitHub Copilot**). - Cross-platform context with strong conceptual understanding of macOS (or iOS) security features. --- ## Nice-to-haves - Security domain expertise (e.g., cryptography, endpoint security concepts such as Secure Enclave, Device Management/MDM protocols, endpoint detection). - Identity & Access Management protocol knowledge (e.g., **FIDO**, **OIDC/OAuth**, or similar). - Cybersecurity principles and secure coding practices; certifications such as **CISSP** or **Security+**. --- ## Education - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent expe
