**FedRAMP High Template — Engineering Manager (Governance Intelligence) | Okta** **About Okta / Identity Governance** Okta secures AI by building trusted, neutral infrastructure that helps organizations safely embrace the AI era. Identity Governance (OIG) powers critical enterprise identity workflows—how people request access, how approvers grant it, how entitlements are enforced, and how organizations prove to auditors that the right people have the right access. OIG supports AI/ML features today and plans major expansion into agentic use cases, including work inside large enterprises with hundreds of thousands of identities across thousands of applications. **Role: Engineering Manager (Governance Intelligence)** As a manager on the OIG (Governance Intelligence) team, you’ll adapt the OIG product to the needs of government customers. You’ll design, build, and maintain robust backend services and intuitive frontend interfaces—rethinking backend design, validation, and delivery through AI-augmented workflows while ensuring secure, interoperable, scalable access enforcement based on the principle of least privilege. **What you’ll be doing** - Lead and grow a team of ML experts and engineers to deliver intelligence features for OIG (machine learning, large language models, and agentic AI systems) - Establish rigor around AI evaluation (design evals frameworks; measure factuality, relevance, and task completion; set quality gates before production) - **Own the end-to-end AI product lifecycle**: problem framing, data curation, model training, A/B testing, deployment, and continuous improvement from production signals - Architect, deploy, and maintain cloud and on-prem infrastructure across high-compliance security baselines - Support operations transitioning into federal environments and collaborate to meet stringent governmental security standards - Proactively identify and prioritize tech debt (CI/CD, observability, documentation, reliability, and support processes) - Partner with Product and Design to own the customer outcome—not just the technical deliverable - Invest in reporting engineers and raise the technical bar across the team **What you’ll bring** - 10+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years in a management role; experience shipping enterprise cloud software - Hands-on depth coding at scale using **Java, Python, or TypeScript**, plus API (REST, gRPC) and UI automation (Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent) - Experience with CI/CD (CircleCI or equivalent), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and a major cloud platform - Ability to apply AI meaningfully across the full software development lifecycle (evaluate/adopt AI tooling with good judgment and establish team practices) - Proven experience defining scalable backend architectures and integrating complex APIs with modern web technologies - Solid understanding of web authentication and authorization fundamentals and best practices for securing sensitive user data **Extra credit (nice to have)** - AI infrastructure expertise (hands-on AWS/GCP AI infrastructure) - Identity Governance & Administration (IGA) experience (e.g., access requests, certifications, entitlement management, separation of duties, role modeling) - Broader Identity & Access Management experience (SSO, SCIM provisioning, directory integration, privileged access) **Additional requirements (U.S. federal eligibility)** - Must be on **U.S. soil** (50 states, DC, or outlying areas as defined in FAR 2.101)
