**Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Decisioning)** **About the Role** Affirm's Identity team is mission-critical to the customer checkout experience. You'll set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and help tie it together with business-impacting projects. This role owns Identity for all markets outside North America, playing a key role in Affirm's international expansion across KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning. **What You'll Do** • Set technical strategy and collaborate across product development with product management, design & analytics • Act as a force-multiplier through technical solutions and operational processes • Own your team's operations and availability with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, and on-call efforts • Foster a culture of quality by setting code review and design standards • Develop talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example **What We're Looking For** • 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python, Kotlin) • Extensive experience with distributed systems (AWS, MySQL, Spark, Kubernetes) • Track record delivering major features and system components with clear technical plans • Comfortable moving from language idioms to large system architecture • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent practical experience **Compensation & Benefits** • Base Pay Grade: P | Equity Grade: 13 • USA Pacific (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $230,000 - $290,000 • USA Sapphire (other states): $204,000 - $264,000 • 100% subsidized medical, dental, vision coverage • Monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech • Flexible time off and ESPP **Work Style** Remote-first with flexibility.
