**Staff Software Engineer — Infrastructure (Central Technology)** Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas while also valuing the opportunity to work across broader domains. As a Software Engineer, you’ll work with both new and current technologies to build innovative solutions that overcome high-volume obstacles and deliver player value. As part of the Riot Infrastructure Team, you’ll join a core group of engineers responsible for building and evolving the infrastructure that enables Riot’s games to operate globally at scale. As a **Staff Software Engineer** on the Infrastructure team, you’ll focus on reducing toil and inefficiency for Riot engineers through tooling and automation—especially as we explore new opportunities enabled by **AI**. Your solutions could include **Slack bots, AI agents, MCP servers**, and systems that automate **game deployments** and other critical workflows. You’ll collaborate across Infrastructure and throughout Riot to identify high-impact problem areas, shape technical solutions, and build tools and automation that meaningfully improve how engineers get their work done. **Responsibilities** - Design solutions and features based on requirements and agreements with stakeholders using standard frameworks and best practices - Drive improvements to standards and best practices where necessary - Continuously look for efficiency and improvement opportunities; propose solutions and rally support - Work with senior leadership across organizations to ensure successful implementation - Lead by example on quality design and coding standards - Mentor and help level up less experienced teammates - Build healthy relationships with other engineering teams to foster cross-team collaboration **Required Qualifications** - 7+ years of experience as a software engineer focused on infrastructure or tooling in a fast-paced, large-scale environment - Expertise across the full software development life cycle - Expertise in one or more object-oriented languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java, C++) - Strong experience with containers and Kubernetes - Experience with large-scale development/deployment on Cloud (e.g., AWS/GCP) - Experience with large-scale deployment technologies (e.g., CloudBees Jenkins, GitHub Actions) - Experience with AI tools such as Codex, Windsurf, or Copilot - Understanding of core infrastructure services, distributed systems, microservices, and software at large scale **Desired Qualifications** - Experience in fast-paced, matrixed organizations - Experience operating and supporting agile development, production services, and high availability - Understanding networking (HTTP down to the network layer: TCP/IP, routing, etc.) - Experience working with international team members and colleagues *Success in this role comes from craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes your fellow Rioters (the customers of your work).
