We build foundational infrastructure that enables the company to leverage data, AI, and ML into business impact—covering the full data and AI/ML lifecycle with the right safety and governance. In 2026, our mission is to evolve the full data ecosystem (platform + models) into a fully **AI agent-ready** infrastructure—enabling customers to extract actionable value via analytics and natural language querying, while upgrading the platform for robust real-time performance. **What You’ll Do** As a high-level architect (Staff Engineer), you will oversee the strategy, architecture, development, and operation of Airwallex’s data and AI platforms. You’ll influence data-driven and AI-powered decision-making and help build a high-performing team. **Key Responsibilities** - Lead the identification and resolution of Airwallex-wide challenges using cutting-edge data platform solutions. - Provide visionary technical direction and actively lead hands-on on complex problems. - Advocate for best practices across the data platform, driving a culture of craftsmanship and innovation. - Mentor the data platform team and support both technical and professional growth. **Who You Are (Minimum Requirements)** - 8+ years of experience in Data Platform (or equivalent combination of work and quantitative academic exposure). - Proven experience leading company-wide initiatives across multiple teams or influencing tech roadmap planning. - Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders to drive tangible business outcomes. - Strong balance of execution velocity with in-depth research, statistical understanding, and scalable design. - Track record mentoring and investing in the development of scientists, engineers, and peers. - Technical leadership experience across major projects (ETL frameworks, metrics stores, infrastructure management, data security). - Proficiency building, deploying, and maintaining reliable multi-geographical data pipelines at scale. - Familiarity with workflow/orchestration frameworks such as Airflow, dbt, etc. **Preferred Qualifications** - Hands-on design experience for data processing patterns in a modern Lakehouse architecture. - Experience designing/developing framework modules, high-performance services, and client libraries for big data (e.g., GCP, Databricks, BigQuery, DataProc, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spark, Dataflow, GCS, Airflow). - Excellent written and verbal communication tailored to diverse audiences. - Ability to rapidly evaluate technologies and run proof-of-concepts to drive architecture decisions. - Experience thriving in complex environments. **Location** Seattle **Applicant Safety Policy (Fraud & Third-Party Recruiters)** Airwallex will not ask for bank details, sensitive ID numbers (e.g., passport), or any form of payment during the application or interview process.
