## Software Engineer ### About Boom Boom is on a mission to level the playing field for the 110+ million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and rewarding. You’ll help build a suite of rental financial services for renters and property managers, including: - Tenant screening - Rent payment reporting - Rent reporting-as-a-service - Integrations with major property management systems (PMS) Boom serves renters through the **Boom App** and property managers via the **Boom Platform**. ### Opportunity Boom recently announced **Series A** and is growing engineering to meet the needs of both **B2B partners** and **B2C users**. The roadmap includes new consumer and platform products, deeper PMS integrations, and an agentic operational layer for residential real estate. ### What You’ll Do Every engineer here owns product in production. You will: - Design, build, and maintain user-facing products and the backend systems that power the platform - Contribute to and help evolve core backend architecture with a focus on scalability and performance - Own services in production, including observability, on-call, and incident debugging - Collaborate with product, operations, and leadership to align technical solutions with business needs - Drive engineering practice through code review, testing, and documentation ### Focus Areas (choose what fits you) BoomScreen - Tenant screening for property managers and applicant flows - Screening operations tooling, applicant experience, and PMS integrations BoomReport & Core Platform - Rent payment reporting to credit bureaus - Rent reporting-as-a-service for partners - Embedded partner surfaces, billing, and platform services BoomCRM - Leads, tasks, and workflow automation for property managers - Listings experience on top of CRM AI and Agents - Customer-facing production AI features across every product - Standalone agents for leasing, application, and underwriting - Own the full agent stack: prompts, tools, memory, retrieval, orchestration, evals, and observability - Build eval and feedback loops (offline evals, online metrics, human review queues) Boom also has additional products in development that are not yet announced. ### What You’ll Need This is not a checklist—apply if you meet most of it. Required for every engineer (any level): - 3+ years of professional web development experience - Strong backend development skills (preference for engineers comfortable across the stack) - Experience with **Ruby** (or similar backend language) and ability to ramp quickly - Backend primarily runs on Ruby (Grape and Sequel) - Growing services in Node.js - Frontend: React/Next.js and TypeScript - Experience integrating third-party APIs (OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, idempotency) - Track record owning services in production with observability, on-call, and incident debugging - Use AI coding agents in daily work and have shipped real code with them (Claude Code is part of the workflow) - Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across teams - Ability to set your own direction in an early-stage environment - Empathy for end users, including low-to-moderate-income renters ### Level & Compensation - Hiring primarily for **mid to senior** range (flexible in either direction) - Title, scope, and compensation are set during the process based on demonstrated competency ### Nice to Have (depending on focus area) - Running coding agents autonomously (cloud/overnight) and st
