**ABOUT BOOM** Boom (https://www.boompay.app/) is on a mission to level the playing field for the 110+ million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and rewarding. Boom builds rental financial services for renters and property managers, including tenant screening, rent payment reporting, rent reporting-as-a-service, and integrations with major property management systems. **OPPORTUNITY** Boom is expanding its engineering team and is hiring an **Engineering Manager** to lead one of our product engineering teams. You’ll help scale how we deliver, grow the engineers on your team, and work closely with co-founders, product leadership, and senior engineers as we grow from Seed to Series A and beyond. 📍 **Location:** Austin, TX (leadership and product team located here) --- **WHAT YOU’LL DO** - Lead a team of **4–8 engineers** on a product engineering team - Stay hands-on: **write and ship features** alongside your team (not just PR reviews) - Own delivery end-to-end with your PM: planning, prioritization, scope tradeoffs, on-time shipping, and performance management - Run design reviews, establish code review standards, and lead on-call/incident response - Grow engineers through regular 1:1s, real feedback, career conversations, stretch work, and performance management when needed - Lead hiring for your team and help raise the bar across the org --- **WHAT YOU’LL NEED** - **7+ years** of engineering experience, including **2+ years** managing engineers directly with a track record of developing them - Strong technical foundation: shipped production roadmap work; can run design reviews, debug incidents, and make architecture tradeoffs - Backend-leaning full stack: **Ruby (Grape)** + **React/Next.js** and **TypeScript** - Comfortable with third-party APIs (OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, idempotency), observability, on-call/incident management, **AWS**, and **Terraform** - Experience running **AI coding agents autonomously** (including overnight) to ship; **daily Claude Code** use is table stakes - Strong communicator and self-starter who can represent engineering to non-technical stakeholders and operate in ambiguity - Empathy for end users, including low-to-moderate-income renters --- **BENEFITS OF WORKING AT BOOM** - Competitive salary + **stock options** - Full healthcare coverage (health/dental/vision), including **50% coverage for dependents** - **15 days PTO** per year + 3 sick days + all US federal holidays (11 total) - Company-issued laptop/MacBook - Company-sponsored training & development - Regular off-sites, retreats, and other company-sponsored events and travel opportunities --- If you’re a **player-coach** excited about building a team and shipping impactful product in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, **reach out**.
